Do any runners on here use tirzepatide? I do split dosing, so 3.5mg Tuesday at 8am and 3.5mg Friday at 8pm. I do weight training twice a week (mon/thu), yoga twice a week (wed/sat), a running three times a week (sun/tues/fri). I’m doing “couch to 5k” and am currently doing 4minute run/2.5 minute walk intervals. The issue I’m running into is that my Tuesday evening run, I have absolutely no energy and can’t keep the right pace. Has anyone else had issues with exercise, specifically cardio, on their shot days?

It's normal on Tirz, especially if your water/electrolytes intake is low. But even if you do everything perfectly is a very common side effect.

Careful with running when you're in a calorie deficit as you're more prone to injuries. Consider adding BPC157 as a precaution, it helped me.

Someone might suggest mots-c for energy/endurance, but I've never tried it.

Thanks, it’s good to know I’m not the only one. I haven’t tried stacking, but I do have the oral capsules of BPC 157. Do you think those would do it?

I'm not exactly "a runner," but I do enjoy it. I try to go for a 2 mile run on one of my workout days, and yesterday I ran on day 1 of my reta shot. I was SLOWWWWWWWWWW.

As my name, Slogger, suggests I do run and I take tirz every 6 days. I run 4 days a week for just over an hour. So far, the shots haven’t affected my runs. I will say that I do NAD+ before each run and that really makes a difference. Something to consider - I haven’t tried oral NAD but I hear that works too. So nice to see other runners here!

When I was on Tirz, it really hurt my cardio performance. Switching to reta helped a bit. My experience was that I basically needed to treat it as if I was in even worse shape than I was. I had to slowly work my way back into higher volume runs.

I started with 4x400m runs with 3-5 min rests between laps, then added another set or went to 800m instead. I added a single zone 2 long-run for time each week. Started at 20 minutes for those, and worked up to 50 minutes.

It took a while to get up to a good pace, but I got there. You've got this!

I don't run much; just 1.5 to 2 miles every day, since my diabetes diagnosis. It's a problem I am trying to run away from. I did notice a being a little more lethargic at first when I started the trizepatide. However, after I lost the first 5 pounds that my body adjusted and responded better than before the first dose. Now after more weight loss I recover faster even as I titrated up in dosage. I know have to run farther to get the same amount of cardio than when I started the trizepatide.

Something to keep in mind as you are doing your C25K plan... Try not to increase running volume (distance/pace/time) by more than 10% each week. I lost a lot of weight on Tirz before I switched to Reta. Overcoming the sluggish feeling is hard at first. The more you establish and keep a routine for your exercise, the easier it will get to stay on it.

Also, losing almost 30 pounds so far is great! I bet you're already feeling better physically as you train. It'll keep getting as you lost more fat and gain more muscle. Keep it up, you're doing awesome!

Do you notice the slow with weight lifting or just with cardio?

Did you notice challenging with weight lifting or just cardio?

Thanks! That’s really kind! I’m on week six of the running plan. I’ve been doubling the weeks though, so I do week one for two weeks then week two for two weeks etc. it’s made it not so bad.

The challenge was mostly being able to do cardio. I was able to do strength training things without feeling like I was working any harder than normal. I ride my bicycle for about 30-45 minutes at a time or run for either distance, pace, or time when I'm running.

That sounds like a great way to ease into running!

i have been on tirz for 4 months, it just so happens that shot day falls on my pure cardio day (3-4 miles outdoors now that the weather is getting nice). i haven't noticed any problems recently, but i did find it harder to exercise on shot day in the first month or so of taking it.

were you on this same schedule before starting tirz? it does look like tuesday would be a harder day in general just given your splits, running sunday, lifting monday and then running again tues. i also personally find nighttime cardio to be harder after a full day of work than doing it in the morning. if you aren't seeing a broader problem with your progress i might just chalk it up. my friday lifts are always crap because i'm so tired by the end of the work week, i just go a little easier on myself knowing it's going to be a slog.

couch to 5k is a great program. got me back into running after a back injury in my 30s. i recommend it to anyone who is trying to get into (or back into) running. best of luck and keep pushing!

I have been on Tirz for a year and a half, adding in Cagri and Reta last month. Have had no issues with running or cardio while on any of them.

No, I wasn’t really exercising at all before I started Tirz. But I kind of figured if I’m willing to go grey I should at least do as much as I can to get to where I want to be. Like I can’t be willing to go grey but not being willing to eat right and exercise. Does that make sense?

May I ask the reason for running, is it cardio-vascular health or to shred some calories, if its the first you can try to carb around your workouts, eat some carbs before running to have the energy and really eat some after to help recover. If its the 2nd I would maybe try more to hit some steps, to not fatigue too much in the diet (since regeneration is bad in a deficit). If its a world of both for you, I really would just do carbs before running.

totally makes sense to me. going from zero exercise to being active pretty much 7 days a week is a big change. from my perspective, just the volume of training you're doing and the timing of that tuesday run could be as big a reason for the fatigue as the shot. if you are otherwise making decent progress / not getting hurt, i wouldn't worry about it too much. but also, as someone else said, if you tend to eat a bit less on shot days or avoid carbs, that could also be a factor in having low energy for an evening run.

It’s honestly because I really, really enjoy it. I used to be a runner and I just miss it. I can definitely try the carb idea, I appreciate you!

I almost ran a half marathon yesterday!

...luckily I talked myself out of it.
