I'm not complaining, I'm normally very hot natured but I been able to sleep without sweating for the first time since I can remember....even before I became overweight. I'm sleeping in long sleeves and pants now, and sleep great...anyone else? I'm at 6mg every 5 days now.

Anyone know the mechanism by which this is happening? I think I heard somewhere maybe fat mobilization increase subq blood flow which in turn rejects heat.

i heard it could be related to the reduced inflammation from being on glp1's, not unheard of people having chills that are on them. I have several friends that say they get chills after starting.

Blood flow is part of it. I'm normally a heat factory, but my hands and feet have been cold for 6 months, since I started. I asked Gemini about this a few months ago. It seems to be as good an explanation as any I've found:

Reasons for Feeling Cold on GLP-1 Medications

Weight Loss and Insulation Loss

Fat Loss: GLP-1 medications, like semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy), promote weight loss by reducing appetite and caloric intake. As patients lose body fat, they lose natural insulation, making it easier for body heat to escape.

Thermoregulation: Fat serves as insulation, and its reduction affects the body's ability to retain heat. This can lead to increased sensitivity to cold.

Metabolic Changes

Lower Caloric Intake: Reduced food consumption leads to less energy available for thermogenesis, the process of heat production in the body. This can result in a lower body temperature.

Decreased Metabolic Rate: As weight decreases, the resting metabolic rate may also drop, further reducing heat generation.

Circulatory Adjustments

Blood Flow Changes: Weight loss can alter blood circulation, prioritizing core warmth over extremities. This may cause hands and feet to feel colder.

Hormonal Influences

Thyroid Function: Weight loss can impact thyroid hormone levels, which play a crucial role in regulating body temperature. Fluctuations in these hormones can contribute to feeling cold.

Managing Cold Sensitivity

Dress in Layers: Wearing extra clothing can help retain body heat.

Balanced Diet: Eating regular, balanced meals can support metabolic function and help maintain body temperature.

Stay Active: Regular exercise can generate body heat and help maintain muscle mass, which is important for warmth.

Feeling cold while on GLP-1 medications is generally a normal response to weight loss and metabolic changes, not a direct side effect of the medication itself.

I found that getting cold is dose dependent for me

Same with allodynia and anhedonia

I'm on tirz and I have been cold. I still use long sleeves during the day. Full sweatpants and hoodies to sleep with a blanket. I don't mind as during summer I don't have to crank up my ac much.

I started with 1mg of reta once a week. I was freezing cold. I reduced it to .5mg because I couldn't sleep after 5 weeks and the cold feeling has gone away.

My wife is now at 2mg and complains about being cold. She still sleeps fine, I can hear her snoring 😭

Haha I live in the tropics and have been living in fuzzy socks, long pants and sweatshirts since September. I think the body freaks out losing all that insulation it was used to. and even a slight drop in ambient temp triggers a reaction.

Hell I thought it was because I was starting to get old. I knew 64 wasn't that old.

Rolltide I love it, your name as for chills I think it's a female issue more than anything. Desinr-gal complains about being cold living in Hawaii. Lol

The odd skin sensations from retatrutide can feel like being cold. I am often not sure if it is that or if I am actually cold.

I get both. Sensitive skin thats not so bad that if I'm not paying attention I don't really notice...but being cold is for real and I been loving it. I can sleep at 70F without sweating my ass of for the first time since puberty lol

Same. It was fantastic when I started last summer, but I blew the heat budget this winter by a country mile! 9 months in and still cold. Cant wait for summer!

To reduce your heat bill you can make several DIY heat packs out of new pairs of cotton socks.

Fill with Flax seeds which contain oil so the heat packs retain a "moist" heat. Best to securely sew the ends, but you can tie as well.

Microwave in 30 seconds increments to avoid scorching and to find the ideal temp. These can be reused for weeks.

Make three or four of these to drape them on yourself.

They provide instant warmth and are great for cold feet, too!
