Hello everyone!

I am struggling with protein. I usually have a protein shake with my coffee in the morning and I keep some protein bars on me for something throughout the day. What are you eating/drinking for protein. I’m not getting enough and would love some suggestions!

I got 14 laying hens that own me. I try to eat 6 hard-boiled eggs a day. My PCP says eggs are a "super food". I wonder about the cholesterol but all my bloods come back great since we went to low carb diets and started Tirz. Course quitting 1qt 1/2 ice cream every day might a made a difference...

Protein shakes and deli chicken/turkey are the easy way to get it in for me… chicken/turkey is easier than shakes for me.

Greek yogurt is a staple, but it’s heavier feeling than the same protein in a shake.

What is your intake goal and how did you come up with that goal?

Protein shakes get boring fast, but I'm living off the Costco brand Nurri shakes are 15 for $25. Pretty good for the money, I get about 90-100 grams just from shakes daily, proteun bars. But greek yogurt, cottage cheez. A 1/2 gallon of Fairlife milk or simething close ain't bad.

There's a ton of formulas for best protein amount, I just use the 1 gram per lb of ideal body weight. 175 for me.

My intake goal is 100g a day.

I absolutely hate eggs but I’m trying to learn to love them. I just don’t know how to cook them.

I have had the nurri protein shakes and I to like those as well

Hard boiled eggs were somewhere near the bottom of my fan favorites because of the cooked yolk. Somehow growing on me...

List of favorite bars: barebell, built puff, quest, and robert Irvine. I can usually jump around between these and not get too burnt out as they are all very different from a texture standpoint.

The hard part isnt getting enough protein but to get enough and staying at caloric deficit so you can still burn those pounds.

Breakfast:

Non Fat Greek Yogurt with a scoop of low sugar protein powder. ( Add berries if you want)

50 grams of protein.

250 calories

Lunch:

1/2 lb of 93/7 ground turkey.

1 cup of rice.

50 grams of protein

609 calories

Dinner:

Same as above but sub turkey for ground beef. Also I tend not to eat lots of carbs at dinner so I'll do some veggies if I want.

46 grams of protein

350 calories

Total protein 146 grams.

Total calories 1210 calories.

This leaves room for some snakes during the day.

This is for cutting not for bulking...

And it's cheap....

Also almost 100 percent of protein bars are trash. Look at how much sugar, carbs and seed oils they have. It just candy with some protein. Your way better of with no/low sugar beef jerky.

Egg bites. Find a recipe online and sub a few of the whole eggs for egg whites in the carton. I make some that have 60ish calories and 10g protein and very easy to eat. Shredded Gruyère, 2% cottage cheese, liquid egg whites, few whole eggs, some lean ham chunks if you like. I put a slice of habanero on top. Blend it all smooth and into sprayed muffin tins. Couldn’t be easier and keep in the fridge for days . Or you can freeze. https://thegirlonbloor.com/copycat-oven-baked-starbucks-chicken embryo-bites/ I do them this way as I like the texture better. These are guidelines and I have never used the corn starch though I may to see if it improves the already good texture. Sub out the bacon for the lean ham or skip entirely.

Love shrimp. Great protein source. Issue I have is that it's hard to find non farm raised . Not a fan of farm raised.
Yeah, down south of you in Los Angeles, I visit Smart and Final once a week and stock up on yogurt, frozen fruit for protein smoothies/shakes, bulk deli meat, bags of frozen veggies, and bags and bags of scallop,s, shrimp, salmon, swai, and other assorted fishies for my freezer. The sticker shock at the register can sometimes be sweat inducing, but I try to keep in mind that the food I am eating is WAY healthier than what I have been eating for most of my life, and the frozen goodies will last me weeks, saving me money in the long run.

Even the many of the good ones are full of sub optimal collagen protein.

I try hard to satisfy my macros every day. I have to add protein powder to just about anything that will accept it because I cannot eat enough food in a day to meet them.

I do eat Quest chips and Legendary donuts when I am really far behind in my daily numbers and hitting them without this fake food would be virtually impossible.

The struggle is real.

Chicken breast and shrimp are the kings of natural protein. There are 70 grams of protein in 8 ounces of chicken breast. This covers half the daily need for many people.

It's easy to fry up some chicken breasts and shred them up. Then add it to chicken broth, pour in some tomato sauce and some chili powder. Makes a very hearty, high-protein chicken chili. Divide into individual portions and freeze.

i have an unhealthy love for cottage cheese, i go through at least 4 of the normal sized tubs a week. 540cals for 72g of protein 30 carb and 12g fat. you can blend it with different seasonings to make high protein dips alot like you can with greek yogurt but wont have the same twang to it and it does better when heated cos the curds will actually be melty.

i like to blend 1 serving with a collagen cheddar cheese powder to add to stuff. its delicious

I get 6-12 eggs a day with a 1/2 lb to a lb of ground beef and 2 cups of cottage cheese. I also do a couple of scoops of perfect aminos. If there’s a need for a snack I do the bone broth powder from paleo valley. I don’t have hens but should. Thank goodness Costco is close and their eggs an are decently priced. Eggs are absolutely a superfood!
