Do you or have you prefilled your meds syringe after reconstituting a few weeks at a time?! Does it lose potency?

I din’t do it. The syringes are not designed to maintain sterility.Nikki nik said:Do you or have you prefilled your meds syringe after reconstituting a few weeks at a time?! Does it lose potency?

When I was on brand, I’d siphon the last bit out into a syringe for the next week. Now, my mom uses brand and won’t use what’s left, so I do the same to hers. Sometimes I leave it in the syringe, sometimes into an empty vial.Nikki nik said:Do you or have you prefilled your meds syringe after reconstituting a few weeks at a time?! Does it lose potency?

Unlikely to kill you. Plenty of people do it. Not the best practice.scarywood75 said:No unless you really don't care about your life, then I guess you could do it

I'm not trusting anything in life that have a chance to kill metul9033 said:Bah, I do it all the time. Med spa's distribute their GLP1's prefilled many times. As long as you follow sterile practices you'll be alright. Long term storage no. Keep them out of the light.
You guys are trusting these pens more than you are a sterile syringe? Bah!

How do you fill the pen vial while keeping the needle sterile?stickfigure said:I think sterile is the key word here. Pens have disposable tips.
How do you fill an insulin syringe while keeping the needle sterile? Once you expose it to air, it may accumulate bacteria. Once you get it wet by puncturing the stopper, you may get bacteria growth on surface of the needle and inside the barrel of the needle. The latter is also true if you backfill and bleed off some liquid with air.
Med spas may be using EO to make filled syringes sterile. That's not something available to home user.
Of course people who own kittens get a lot more bacteria under their skin daily than with insulin pins. But this may be important to people with weaker immunity

Pen cartridges work similar to luer lock syringes. They have disposable needles. Needle is not part of the cartridge. Benzyl Alcohol inside the cartridge prevents bacteria growth. Nothing stopping bacteria from growing outside, that's why you wipe the stopper with alcohol pad and use sterile disposable pen tip.tul9033 said:How do you fill the pen vial while keeping the needle sterile?

I pre-fill some peptides the night prior to injection to give the temperature time to adjust. I’m convinced that in the short amount of time between filling and injection that the needle dulls.Nikki nik said:Do you or have you prefilled your meds syringe after reconstituting a few weeks at a time?!
