Where oh where has my mg gone?

As the title says I have no clue whats going on

I use a pen & cartridges. I added 2mg H bac to 34mg Tirz & I check on the calculator every time to make sure. I dial up & my husband double checks I'm on the correct unit (so its not like I'm doing random things). I also made a list & used 25mg of this but it was empty & have moved on to the 2nd vial. I did make 2 carts during this time 1 at a time & filtered for both.

Same thing happened with my R. I did 1ml in 10mg. Made 3 vials at a time 1 by 1 same exact. 1st vial lasted to 7mg, now this 2nd one was already empty today & only took 5.5mg. I have no clue whats going on

I do not leave a tip in ever (so its not leaking or evaporating). I use a new one & dispose every time.

Does this happen to anyone else?

As Smiter said, isn't there always some fluid left in the filter? A 4mm filter retains about 5 units. A 13mm filter retains about 15 units. Also, there's some fluid left in the cartridges when you get to the end, right? Since most cartridges are tapered at the end, but the plunger doesn't fit there. Could that be where the math is different?

Yes I do use a 13mm .22um I didnt realize it was 15 left in there, but the 10mg added up to 45units & the 34mg one was 53u. I was just surprised today that there wasn't anything left after 3 doses. I have to make sure to use higher mg vials, ha ha

I had the same thing happen to me when I tried reconting the Reta.. liquid got out of the filter and being the despo I am, I licked it. Did you pull back the plunger and push air through the filter to force liquid back into the vial?

I had to check it out & read about it. Its up to 29u (said 10-29) that can be left in there, so that explains a lot. The rest must have been from 1st prime + what was left in the cart

Doesn't the 1st part come out when you filer the 2nd time? Dont you just lose the up to 28 units 1x (last push through)?

Unfortunately, filtering doesn’t remove endotoxins, so that second filtering is basically a waste of supplies and opens the possibility for further contamination. Endos are too small to be filtered. Some say that there is a special type of charged filter that might be able to remove endotoxins, is that what you’re using? If not, the second filtering is actually adding risk, not reducing it.

What you’ve described about losing 45 units in those 10mg/1mL vials is way beyond the typical “holdback” in a filter. Some possible alternative hypotheses:

The pen is administering the wrong # of units

User error on the # of units administered (less likely with the 10mg since the math is easy)

The syringe using to draw the bac is not calibrated correctly (not likely)

Of all these, the first seems the most plausible. What type of pen are you using and have you tested it?
