My weight loss means my glutes don’t have the extra cushion now that they did a month ago. For KLOW, obviously with the stingy copper, I use a 1/2 inch needle to make sure I get in deep enough to avoid the red welts.

Last night, even though I pinched the skin and it didn’t feel like I hit the muscle when I pinned, I woke up in the middle of the night with muscular pain in the glute and down the leg that tells me I definitely didn’t pin right.

I’m not sure that I have advice for others, but the lesson learned here is to be a bit more careful going forward because the muscle pain is un-fun.

Similar thing happened to me lately. While giving myself my weekly trt shot in the love handle area. There's a muscle there. 🤷‍♂️ Took a week to go away.

Going with shorter needle.

Losing fat comes with it's own set of "problems".

Sub q trt injection? If so, that sounds way better than IM.

I’ll second the confusion on the TRT shot being subq. Everyone I know who does those shots do a scary looking needle right into the leg muscle.

The only subq TRT I’ve heard of is the pellets. But it is interesting to think about doing subq shots as an option.

Yep, I take Test C SQ using a 29ga 1/2" needle. 30 gauge works, but the draw time is considerably longer and the discomfort with 29ga isn't meaningfully different.

I thought the same until I heard people here talking about SQ, here are a few studies with clinical data;

Testosterone Therapy With Subcutaneous Injections: A Safe, Practical, and Reasonable Option - PubMed

Although studies directly comparing the safety of SC vs IM administration of testosterone esters are desirable, clinicians should consider discussing the SC route with their patients because it is easier to self-administer and has the potential to improve patient adherence.

A 52-Week Study of Dose Adjusted Subcutaneous Testosterone Enanthate in Oil Self-Administered via Disposable Auto-Injector - PubMed

The dose adjusted subcutaneous testosterone enanthate auto-injector demonstrated a steady serum total testosterone pharmacokinetic profile with small peak and trough fluctuations. The device was safe, well tolerated and virtually painless, indicating that this subcutaneous testosterone enanthate...

Subcutaneous Injection of Testosterone Is an Effective and Preferred Alternative to Intramuscular Injection: Demonstration in Female-to-Male Transgender Patients - PubMed

Our observations indicate that SC T injections are an effective, safe, and well-accepted alternative to IM T injections.
