I had never heard of 5htp before, just read a little info about it. That's amazing. How did you find out about it?
I've known about it for years and took some a few years ago but not consistently. I got into herbal medicine/tinctures/homeopathy after being so disillusioned by big pharma in general, so had been trying for many years to get off of the antidepressant. At one point during my worst auto immune flares I was on 8 daily pharma meds and mentally was just pissed about it so I found ways to replace/get off of them all and frankly have been much healthier. The gabapentin I was on was creating issues that were being attributed to a new auto immune disease but I questioned it and lo and behold, med side effects, not another disease.

I now have only 1 prescription med and I take it once or twice a week (my adhd med).

Anyways don't take my feelings/experiences here as any dis or judgement on those who are dependent on prescription meds. I GET it. They literally saved my life more than once. I'm very thankful for them in that sense. (Sertraline specifically)

Yes! I've found its given me some energy and also my labs are looking good...but could be better!
Yeah, I had a highish LDL cholesterol and added beta glucans and nattokinase and saw a huge improvement. Other than that, my vitamin stack is real similar to most folks here

No way man, not taking it that way at all. People think differently about many different things, including health and medicine. Can't judge him for it.

I remember after discussing work with a colleague of mine over zoom, we talked about my prediabetes and all the things I was doing to change my diet so I wouldn't have to take medication. His reply was just to go see his doctor who would put me on medication so I could eat whatever I wanted. Just a completely different mindset.

It's outstanding that you were able to get off that number of prescription medication. Very happy for you.

Thanks! It's saved me a lot of money in doctor visits and pharmacy trips too!

Ps. I'm a girl 🙂

Where do you get your 5htp from? Asking for my wife who has ADHD and body produces low serotonin. Thank you!

I have been buying the Triquetra brand from amazon, the organic version. (Not sure if they even have another version). I have it on subscription. There are many options and most are cheaper than the one I use, and while I can't speak to their efficacy, if money is tight you can atil find a good one for a better price. I try to find a balance between cost and effectiveness, and with as few/zero additives as possible. Cheap supplements can be a waste of money as much as over priced ones, so I look for quality first, then price.

@kobeanbry24

It's worth noting that 5htp is not an ideal supplement for extended long term use. L-tryptophan (the amino acid precursor to 5htp in your body) may be better as a long term solution.

I have my 5HTP ready to try as I suffer from ADHD too, brand is "Now" 50mg dosage. Just waiting to finish testing other supplements because I don't want to mix benefits/side effects.

Be careful about serotonin syndrome if she's on other medications for the same thing

I take their 5-MTHF. I haven't been taking it that long but the quality seems good.

The evidence for fish oil has gotten less and less positive over time except for specific situations(very high triglycerides, preterm birth). The evidence for cardiac benefits has mostly reversed to it being shown to be detrimental. Doctors are behind(as usual 😆 ) and some physician organizations have had their guidelines impacted by people that own fish oil companies. I suggest you take a look at the newer studies if you are still being told it's good for heart health.

Thanks for this... I don't doom and gloom over fish oil's latest press, but I was already expecting very marginal benefit based on my relatively good bloodwork anyways. Happy to take less things!

I'd thought of running fish oil for a couple more weeks until my next bloodwork, but when I checked the stock bottle the safety seal wasn't made properly. Amazon refunded both bottles (~$60) so heck with it; I'm not curious enough on the labs to take another 60 pills.

Nice stack!

Is the fish oil “bad news” primarily that many of the products are badly oxidized and that oxidized oil (as any oxidized oils) is inflammatory to the body and leads to poor cell membrane stability due to the oxidative changes to the oils?

I take currently take a capsule but don’t see me continuing after this bottle is empty. I primarily rely on 4+ tins of portuguese sardines or small mackerel a week as my principal source of omega3.
