Hi, I am about to filter for the first time and It seems that most people vent. I dont have many filters, so I would like to avoid venting with a filter on vent needle if possible. Can you possibly just extract the amount of air from the new vial before injecting the filtered peps instead?

Apologies if this has been covered, I couldnt find this specific question.

This method doesnt use the additional filter on the vent, but I dont love the idea of it being unfiltered if I am doing all this to make it sterile.. Thats why im wondering if extracting air would do the same thing

I vent with a a clean unfiltered needle. I have lots of filters and I wouldn't burn one on it. You can get very picky with sterility practices, but unless you're filtering in a barn, I wouldn't worry about it. But that's me.

I vent with needle only, no filter. I bought a bunch of hydrophobic filters for the sole purpose of venting. Suddenly I realized that I inject air before drawing a dose anyway so why use an air filter only when reconstituting?

this is good stuff. I am filtering this week for the first time and I was thinking ALL this too.

Same here. Use a sterile needle. It's just purging air as you add the liquid. Not a contamination risk to me.

To me it is the predicted amount of time I will be using the vial, that determines my level of caution. Since I use small doses and a 3ml vial, I want it to remain safe the whole time.

I use cartridges so I dont add in any air when I pin, but for those who do, it is always a good idea to do this in as clean a space as possible. I pre spray lysol 5 mins before I pin.. Because I do that in my bathroom.

You can think well I'm breathing this air, and nothing bad happens...but we do have defense systems for the entryways of our bodies, and not as much under the skin (which is the defense system) Chronic inflammation is bad so why not try to stay safe?

Order the dang filters in bulk, be diligent about wiping your caps and skin, spray the air with alcohol or lysol.. and stay healthy!

my two cents
