Sadly, I'd estimate that more than half -- probably closer to 2/3rds -- of people experimenting with research peptides have no idea what they're doing. Fortunately most peptides aren't going to cause permanent injury or death, but the fact that people are just guessing or following whatever random information they can find online is terrifying.
I completely feel the same way.

I had never experienced diarrhea on tirzepatide. Then one day, after getting food poisoning while on tirz, I had awful diarrhea. How bad was it? I was unable to stand to because I had become so dehydrated that my blood pressure was super low. Although I didn't know it until later, I had passed out and slightly injured by face. I had to call 9-1-1. I started feeling better a few minutes after they stuck the saline solution IV into me. This happened using prescription Zepbound while following the doctor's directions. Yes, there are dangers. I'm not discouraging people from using grey. But there are risks.

I generally don't try to learn about controversial scientific things from youTube. I believe that I'm more likely to be figure out the truth by reading stuff. Am I just describing myself? Am I even correct that I'm better figuring stuff out by reading?
By no means did I advise anyone to take information from YouTube and to just use it. It’s like here, USE IT AS A GUIDE that’s all! Can it help as a starting point and point someone in a good direction that has no clue, yes. Just like this forum and other online options that are out there. I’ve been using medical and research journals all my professional career and that’s been over 25+ years. The biggest issue for most is getting to the bottom of the bull💩 and learning what is true and accurate and that’s hard even in research, medical journals/papers!

PS…I don’t have TicToc, Reddit, or other social media, my and FB is to keep up with grandkids and I’ve never used ChatGTP……so my research is old school research! ✌️🤓

I wasn't seriously criticizing youTube as a source of information. I, however, hate having to watch videos for for something that I can read. (I make an exception for instructions on how to physically fix something or how to put something together.) That's just me personally. It doesn't mean that I learn more than you from the videos. Use what works best. I wasn't accusing you of urging people to use bad information. When we advise someone to research something, there is always the danger that they will use bad sources. As to ChatGPT, I do realize that it's the way of the future. The current problem with it is that it makes so many mistakes. Still in a year or two, AI will be quite impressive.

100% with you in this one. I want to see the trials and journal articles. I also find reading to hold my attention better than talking heads on video. It’s personal preference combined with a need to see data.

I also prefer written instructions over YT how to videos for home and auto repair information.

Honestly, I watched a TON of videos. Took notes and verified the recommendations given with the information that’s been published.
I wish I could watch videos! I have the attention span of a gnat when it comes to video but can read all day long. There is a lot of great content out there but I grow impatient too quickly. Turning on closed captioning helps.

@randompersonrandom This is a tricky one. I think most of us ( I hope) are of the opinion that an individual needs to do own research and the risk ultimately is theirs to take as you said, and manage. We know everyone is different. I think you are approaching it the right way. I am genuinely terrified by those folk who will just take “anything”.

I have a family member who is desperate to try GLP1’s. So desperate he too would take anything. But I won’t help him get it or talk to him or tell him how because, first he doesn’t listen, and second I don’t want to be blamed for the inevitable ill health that will result.

He won’t even take licenced prescribed meds ( for pain and other long term conditions from specialists ) because of the side effects. I have helped him access healthcare for diagnosis of serious medical conditions. He only wants to know what’s wrong. Never take medication daily. He believes that doctors withhold “good” antibiotics. He will try any “ folklore” cures instead or anything with “but this lassie said on Facebook” . Not one has ever worked. Why? Snake oil. Because there are no quick fixes.

He has taken a tanning injection of unknown origin. He has untreated anxiety and highly disordered relationship with food. He is desperate. Very similar mindset to an addict. Your lady seems more reasonable!

So I can relate

I really like david_ifbbpro on you tube. He explain the science, how it works, the dosing, where to pin, side effects, titration up dose. All for Reta. He also has a Reta guide, so there’s educational aspect there too.

The comments are full of people asking same three questions. Obviously one is where do you get it. Where can I buy it.

I would start her chat with gentle curiosity, making it about her, ask how it’s going, the journey, concerns / side effects & get her to admit to you the stuff she doesn’t know and then send her the link to the youtube. Right then and there while you are chatting. In healthcare circles they call this a “ brief intervention”.

What more can a friend do other than say I’m concerned, can we talk about this? You have to say something because you obviously care about this person and a true friend will tell you what you DONT want to hear but often need to. It will ease your conscience if she does become unwell because of it. We can only try.

You can lead a horse to water..💧 🐴

Good luck 🤞

Boy, this resonates with me. I was perfectly prepared for anyone dear to me saying "hey, I want to get into this, can you help me" to say "Well, this is kind of a hobby and one with some risk, and it requires some research, some learning, and some new skill acquisition to do safely. I can't do that part for you, but I can give you some links to where you can start figuring it out. You need to know that doing this means being your own doc, your own compounding pharmacist, and your own buyer, and all three of those things carry a fair amount of need for learning and a higher amount of risk than if you paid the cost of experts doing those things. Do you want the links to where you can read up and think about what you want to do?'

What I was not even SLIGHTLY prepared for, though I woulda been if I'd thought through how people are, is "Hey, I (someone you care about with a history of taking sizable risks without considering what they are or how to mitigate them, and who I know from experience is not much of a researcher and isn't on the internet much) am on skinny shots too! It's called retasomething, and a friend of mine gave me a bottle and told me how to use it!" That is such a different conversation.

To be fair this behavior is what our current medical establishment has trained us all to do. Doctors hand out a prescription and most people just mindlessly take what they are told to take. People are harmed all the time by the medical industry. It is in fact the #1 cause of death. Is taking something a trusted friend gives you all that much more dangerous? I'm not so sure that its something we can answer.

It's my understanding that the leading cause of death (both in the US and worldwide) is heart disease, which still supports the "what she's doing is technically less dangerous than not doing anything" point, to be fair. As to the second question, I guess it depends on who the friend is, but I see your point. I know humans are going to human, but man, I so badly wish they would human a little less chaotically and put some thought into it.

IMHO, the leading cause of death is birth. Once a person is born, that person is practically guaranteed to die.

In order to make people think that medical errors are not the #1 cause they separate the problems. Misdiagnosis, dying during surgeries, medication errors, denial of care .. etc. Officially they list it as the #3 cause of death .. but that data is disputed. Furthermore the CDC hasn't even bothered to list it as a real cause of death.

For example let's look at maternal deaths. One study they did proved that most of the women died due to negligence .. but do they list the cause of death as negligence? Nope.

It is terrifying and sometimes aggravating- which is my inner-bitch-no-more attitude from Covid2020 speaking. I became feral.

I’ve tried being considerate, but I’m mostly WTAF are you doing dumbass? I direct them to sources to read, but most don’t wanna read shit. They just want to spank that easy button that society has potty trained everyone to expect.

See? Fucking feral. Sorry your friend got roped into this.

Ima shut up now.

Yeah I can speak on that a bit. Birth accidents. You know what else they can cause? Cerebral Palsy. Doctors skate by on damage to babies delivered improperly, especially in the era where underaged mothers were basically placed in the hospital basements to give birth like cattle. It was the 1960’s and that fucked me up for the rest of my life. I’m lucky tho, I got a minor case of it. Most end up in wheel chairs hardly able to chew their food without the spasms causing meals to be thrown about wildly. It’s awful and doctors were to blame, however they never were held accountable… EVER.

That's why I never go to medical doctors. I only see vets, preferably those with experience with great apes.

Not to be problematic - but is there some other way currently to discover "healthy" means and methods? Aren't we all kind of "cowboy-ing" it?

It's more-than-kind-of a fringe sub-culture.

Truly curious.

I have less of a problem than many others on this forum with people who haven't spent a great deal of time becoming GLP-1 researchers.

Our maternal death rate is 3x what first world countries have. We should be rioting. These are our young women, dying unnecessarily!

My first was born with an APGAR of 1 - he had a heart beat but not breathing, crying, reflexing, etc because the doctor couldn’t be bothered to show up for the c/section before 8:30 AM. I had been laboring for 28 hours but the way doctors don’t like to believe women… I’m sure he thought I was exaggerating. Fucker. I have NO kind words for that doctor. Same doctor that warned of shoulder impingement (a real thing) trying to encourage a c/s due to size (also accurate, he was 9.5 pounds, a week early). Hypocrite.

My 17yo is doing great BTW.

Our medical system is bonkers.

Third leading cause is Medical Malpractice! Terrifying statistic!
