Sourcing BAC making me crazy

That's awesome.
The truth is that it's very simple

Sterile WFI water

Benzyl Alcohol

And what we call here in Europe "watch scale" because Benzyl alcohol have a different density than water. I prefer to weight the amount of benzyl alcohol with the scale and then add the weight of water necessary to create a solution of 0.9%

After you weight the Benzyl alcohol, I use this web page https://www.physiologyweb.com/calculators/percent_solutions_calculator.html

in order to know how much WFI water I have to add and it's done

All the things I mentioned are available on Amazon, specially in US

As much as I get some weird thrill out of my junior scientist activity filtering and reconning, I do not live in a clean room and want bac water made in the cleanest conditions to lessen my risks.

That's why.
So rather rely on shady Chinese/Amazon/re-labelled BAC instead?

Hospira is NOT available to a majority of people not North America based. Otherwise it would be a no-brainer.

Hey, you do you. I stated what is comfortable for me. I can't make a judgment of what is right for anyone else. What you do is your business. This is a forum where people share ideas and experiences. Back up.

Precisely why I was, politely, asking if you "not having a sterile room" translate into being happier with something that has been proved over and over to be unsafe. Screen the forum for some interesting pics of non-Hospira BAC cultures.

You prefer I clap my hands to you or that I freely try to convey through the forum, in an open and respectful way, that what might be sold as safe from some profeeters is actually not?

Not sure why you're assuming my practices. It's unhelpful and wholly inaccurate. Just because I don't make my own bac water doesn't equate to a single alternative.

There is a wide chasm between CN bac water and making it one's self. As I posted, kudos to the person who shared their process and provided a very useful resource. That's impressive.

It's not something I am comfortable to do but a helluva solution to share.

You are behaving unnecessarily and inappropriately aggressive. There was nothing at all polite in your reply. Either of them. Really, back up.

You've been set to ignore.

Exactly what alternatives do you suggest, in places across the globe where Hospira bac cannot reasonably be obtained, in that chasm between DIY mitigated risk and test-demonstrated CN microbial fiesta near-certainty?

I the absence of Hospira, I suggest focusing on using certified sterile water sourced from medical grade supplier (aka pharmacies). If need for long term, then I suggest add the 0.9% of benzylic alcool.

In all cases I recommend to filter the reconstitution with 0.22micron filters.

In terms of there not being a sole alternative I was speaking of my own experience. I cannot and do not speak for anyone else.

You could also just inject 10units of benzyl alcohol per 10mL of sterile water for injection. Using sterile makes sure that the water cannot be contaminated while you are handling it.

Someone posted this calculator to measure benz alcohol

https://www.physiologyweb.com/calculators/percent_solutions_calculator.htmlcalculator

I'm definitely DIY curious at this point. I did manage to get a couple bottles but if this keeps being a problem I'll look into making my own.

I work on aseptic environment . Just need a burning alcohol lamp and do the work near the flame.

I buy 100ml bottles of WFI water

Normally I make 30ml of BAC water each time.

This + filtering peptides = zero problems

Another thing

10units of benzyl alcohol is 0.1ml

And 0.1ml in 10 ml of water gives a total volume of 10.1ml

And if you check that calculator 0.1ml of BA in 10ml of water, if you insert those values on the calculator v/v will give you 0.99% of BAC water solution

That's not a big problem.. But if you want precisely 0.9% then the math is not correct..

And because of different density, I prefer to weight instead of volumes..

If you see the info on hospira BAC it's says the percentage of 9mg per ml and not 0.9mL per mL

Are there actually any BAC sellers in the UK/Ireland that aren't complete rip off merchants? That goes for both quality and price. At this point I might as well just use the vendors stuff and hope for the best.

Do not use Amazon bac water. We tested it. It was not pretty.

Hospira or bust for me.

The good news is that testing showed hospira to remain usable far past the expiration date so theres that.

Try any of the resellers above as long as its actual hospira.

Seriously. I will never get the petri dish pics of nasties growing in it from failed sterility EVER out of my mind.
For what its worth, I checked the Janoshik COA for a Herbilabs vial that I got off of Amazon. The values are looking good:

Endotoxin 0.131 EU/ml. (extremely low, far under the 5 EU/kg guideline for adults)

pH 6.56 (should be between 5-7)

Benzyl Alcohol 8.53 mg/ml (very close to 9mg)

sterility TAMC + TYMC: pass

Herbilabs is a UK vendor that sells in the EU, I don't know if they are available in the US.
