Needle size for SubQ injections - help!

Hi all, I have been taking retatrutide for a few weeks and I had the effects (atleast the weight loss mainly) (hard to say if it was mainly from the hard work put in though) I have now purchased from a supplier here, I was using 13mm needles and now I have some 12.7mm ones (the ones supplied from UK pharmacies) I was wondering if these are too large/long - I know a lot of people use 8mm, could I just choose not to insert the whole needle? Or what angle would be best, I do have a decent amount of belly fat so I believe angled the 12.7mm should work - just wondering if any advice ! Thanks

I use 12.7mm x29 gauge insulin syringes. They are tiny and you barely feel them.

I'm not too worried about feeling them, more so that I am injecting correctly, not hitting intramuscular etc - I know with for example 4-8mm you just directly inject with no need to think angles etc

If you want them tiny, pens needles are the smallest. 4mm 32g are small & thin if that's what you're looking for

I don't mind them being the size I mentioned, more so if from experience this is consistently viable, angling, ensuring SubQ is hit, I'm concerned about going too deep etc

I use either 6mm or 4mm 32g or 31g, whatever is cheaper when I go to buy it. For both pen and syringe.

Not too long as long as you pinch the skin, I think that is the size of my Rx Humira pre-filled syringe subq

Yes, 4mm or 6mm are standard for pens.

So of course I use 5mm...

If it's not too deep now you can always go smaller as u keep going down & don't have as much thickness? Maybe try to not go as deep if you can't find shorter

6mm and sometimes 8mm. No need for angles with those, just pinch and go. Sometimes I get a drip out of the site after using 6mm, not yet with 8mm but I don't have a ton of experience. I keep the concentrations high enough that I am usually injecting 15 units or less, but when I get over 20 units I go for the 8mm.

A 12.7 mm needle isn’t too long if you have enough belly fat, but it does require good technique. For subcutaneous injections:

Use a 45° angle and pinch the skin to stay in the fatty layer

Avoid partially inserting the needle,

Shorter needles (6–8 mm) are usually easier and more comfortable, but yours can still work safely.

I use the 12.7mm 29/30 gauge needles as well. I mainly do the longer ones, because it's easier to get the last of the peps outta that 3ml bottle. But, I do pinch the skin, 45 degree angle and just inject about 1/2 - 2/3 of the way, to stay in the Sub-q layer for the injection.

I know it's a bit off the topic here, but pen needles rock! I've been using pens for a month but today I switched back to a 29ga insulin needle to grab the last bit out of a vial. Friggin' needle bounced off my skin! Had to stab a 2nd time, more aggressively, to actually penetrate.

I suppose the dulling of stabbing thru the rubber stopper, combined with the larger gauge needle caused this, but wow!

This is exactly what sometimes happens to me with my Rx pre-filled syringes. I've been using them every other week for 20+ years now. Sometimes I try a spot and it won't go in so I move it over an inch and it's good. Never had an issue with my 31-32ga sryinges for GLP-1.

I'm currently using 5mm 31g pen tips. I LOVE LOVE LOVE pens!! I was previously using 8mm syringes, but I really had to stab them in as they dulled after pulling my peps from the vials. I love the less waste too with the pen tips. I just use the syringes now for re-con and filling my pen vials

Same I don't want to try anything else. Love how small they are.

12.7mm work great. Pinch an inch and jab it straight in.

The 32G and even 31G needles can make it harder to get solution in the syringe.

For non-spicy peps, I don't like anything longer than 8 mm for subq. Some people like the longer ones for "deep subq" for spicy peps.

6-mm syringes and 6-mm pen needles are my favorite, but I haven't made my own pens yet.

Pinching your skin should help with the hitting a muscle worry
