Ow wow, sorry that happened to you. That nurse definitely earned her degree right there! I was curious when you said permanent malabsorption component, as that can happen with the DS. Nothing to the degree you went through, my mom had a DS and struggled with getting her Vitamins in. Had to get her to the Dr's office more a few times that 1st year, a lot of blood work and threatening to take her the ER, to get her on the mend and poppin vitamins all day. We talked about a revision several times, but it all worked out in the end. She's still down 175+lbs to this day and pretty functional.FarmgirlRebel said:Biliopancreatic Duodenal Swith/DS and it almost killed me when we found out regular multi vitamins and supplements weren't enough, I wasn't absorbing Thiamine, regardless of protein intake. Developed Wernicke's Encephalopathy and wound up in ICU for several days.
Thankfully, I was still coherent enough in the ER to whisper Duodenal Switch and I had a curious nurse, who ended up saving my life by getting me on a Thiamine push as they were treating me for a TIA.
Sorry to bring up bad memories, but I'm glad you shared that.
