HELP me out: Women's Hair loss from Tirz

Tirz never caused diarrhea for me, though when I started metformin, that caused loose stools. My endocrinologist who Rx'd it (and Zepbound) told me metformin is known to cause B12 deficiency, so I supplement with sublingual methylated B12.

We're in the middle of doing more in-depth blood work including Ferritin and several more detailed thyroid values (t3, t4, reverse t3 and TPO antibodies) to figure out my fatigue. I told him fatigue and hair loss was a common side effect reported by lots of people on Tirz, and even he seemed like he didn't know much about it. We're educating the doctors with our own experiences!

Oh wow, I feel this. I’m on Tirz too and losing hair like crazy. My ponytail is half what it was! 😩 I’m upping protein, adding collagen, and started iron + biotin hoping it helps. Also hesitant about minoxidil but considering rosemary oil. If you find something that works, please share!

Well I'm still shedding a lot more than normal and I have a lot less hair, but it's looking better. I've been on the Nutrafol vitamins for older women for about 5-6 weeks and the thin texture of my hair seems better (like at the temples/top crown area), like it's filling out with a little growth.

I've also been taking collagen powder for ~6-7 weeks and I could tell right away my nails grew longer and stronger, they'd always chip and break before. Maybe it has some effect on my hair too but hard to tell. Trying to increase protein with those 26g and 42g protein shakes from Fairlife, also eating more cottage cheese and yogurt. But I hate tracking anything so I'm estimating I'm adding ~30-50g daily more than before.

The funny part about having a lot less hair than before is my natural waves and curls are coming out. Before, I had so much hair and it was so dense that the sheer weight of it just made it frizzy and wiry. Like the extra ventilation lets the curls spring to life instead of being squashed by a heavy mat of hair.

I lost about a 1/3 of my hair. I've been on GLP1s/ GIPs for 4 years now, currently maintenance. With time the shredding will stop and you will get back most of your hair. What helped me most, which I read your doing is- collagen & protein, vitamins (mainly zinc, D+K2 and selenium- alternating days for selenium). I also did Rogaine for a year, I had a lot of growth the 6 months in, but it gave me chest pain and headaches, hated it. I added GHK- Cu injections (4 months ago) for when I quit Rogaine out of fear of losing even more hair, and it worked because I have an TON of little baby hairs sprouting everywhere and I did not have crazy hairl0ss stopping the Rogaine. I've had friend that take oral Minoxidil meds and they love it.

Tirz, perimenopause, and this hair loss is no joke! I’ve got four kids and I swear I’m shedding more than the dog. You’re doing all the right things, but check your iron and ferritin. Low levels can make it worse.

Rosemary oil might help, and while Minoxidil freaks me out too, a lot of women swear by it.

Hoping this shed slows down soon for both of us! 💖

Ugh, I feel you. Tirz plus perimenopause is a brutal combo for hair loss. You’re doing all the right things so hopefully it levels out soon. Maybe try red light therapy, or check your ferritin levels? I get avoiding minoxidil but some microdose to skip the big shed. Hang in there, sending good hair vibes! 💛

Well my labs showed Ferritin was normal (128 ng/mL). Right in the middle of the normal range.

My iron was normal too, my % saturation was even high (46%) just over the cut-off of normal range (16-45%). So I don't think there's a problem there, and maybe I don't need more protein, just more calories?

I don't see my endocrinologist until June, but on paper all my labs seem normal.

One more thing I threw at my hair situation: My stylist gave me a B3 treatment (stands for Brazilian bond builder). My hair is softer, less frizzy and looks a little better.

I didn't real any previous replies, but the first step is making sure you are getting sufficient iron

I started GLOW and I have a appointment Wed with a dermatologist to get oral Minoxidol. I'm not playing around. I have one foot in the grave and don't have time for any of this nonsense. Love my weight loss though. My blood work is good. Taking Nutrafol also.

Good for you, taking the bull by the horns. Let us know how it works for you. How long have you been on the Nutrafol vitamins?

I am 55 and have dealt with alopecia since my early 30's. Dermatologist did a biopsy to confirm diagnosis. I have used Nioxin shampoo and conditioner off and on for years. I do believe it is smart to rotate shampoos as my hair can become limp. Though I do not do this enough, I know massaging your head is very important to provide more blood flow. Minoxidil was too strong for my scalp. My scalp was bright red and hurt. Long story short I could not continue. I have had another major shed and my new dermatologist suggested the foam version of Minoxidil. It is much more gentle on your scalp. I also added Nutrifol for three months. Well, $75 a month is too much for me and I did not see results so I changed to Weem hair gummies at $25 a month. I also do red light from time to time. I have learned a lot about red light with my Body Contouring business. Watch for Amazon's Prime Sale and you can buy red light equipment at a great price. For me, I feel Weem is helping me better than Nutrifol (compare ingredients) and I like the price. I recently added essential oils into my regimen. (I do not have feedback on that yet.)

I am really excited to try the cocktail of GHK-Cu and BPC-157. I have not ordered yet but it's on my "to do list".

I swear by ghk cu and bpc-157(injection). I take it 5 days a week. It has been really helping me. I also take, One A Day complete multivitamin (zinc, folate, biotin, 1.35mg copper, plus others)and love them! I hope that you find something that truly helps you too!

I am on sema (over 3 years) and last June or July my hair (at 53) started coming out like crazy. I always had the absolute thickest hair. I was also already on BHRT.. so she started doing bloodwork for my thyroid. I am on the lowest dose of T3 in the morning and T4 at night and I believe it has stopped. This all took a while to figure out as, you can see, I have a lot going on. I cried for days and days and days.... until I realized how much easier it was to actually dry my hair.

I still hate it... and I do KLOW, topical minoxidil, collagen, protein... you name it. It may be growing back, as I can see "baby hairs" but is has been the absolutely most depressing this about getting older.

Thank you for the reminder... I do need a good haircut. Hang in there. You are definitely not alone. I started crying, again, reading this... 💖

Nutrient deficiencies and malnutrition are a huge component of hair loss. The tirzepatide isn't the direct cause of your hair loss. Increase your protein and make sure you don't have any other deficiencies.

Nutrition and hair: deficiencies and supplements - PubMed

Hair follicle cells have a high turnover. A caloric deprivation or deficiency of several components, such as proteins, minerals, essential fatty acids, and vitamins, caused by inborn errors or reduced uptake, can lead to structural abnormalities, pigmentation changes, or hair loss, although...

Prevalence of Nutritional Deficiencies in Hair Loss among Indian Participants: Results of a Cross-sectional Study - PubMed

Nutritional deficiency is a common problem in participants with hair loss irrespective of the type of alopecia. The findings of our study suggest need for identification and correction of nutritional deficiencies in patients with hair loss.

Are you taking it separately?

Yes, I am. I have a vial ghk cu and a vial of bpc-157. I'm a 54 yr old female and having my hair thin out so much, really makes me feel down. My hair looks more lively now (shiny and bouncy)and I'm getting baby hairs too, and the hair looks and feels a little thicker. I'm really happy with it. 👍

I lost a good bit of my hair too. I’ve been taking Nutrafol for a couple of months and haven’t seen much improvement. I feel that my hair is less brittle but I don’t know if the vitamins could have helped that. I am thinking about trying red light therapy.

Red light therapy? I'm not familiar with it. I'm getting curious now. I'm going to have to look it up. It's great losing weight, but surely sucks with these hair issues.
