Has anyone tested their own peptides/aminos/etc. for endotoxins using a DIY chromogenic LAL kit like GenScript ToxinSensor ($110 for 32 tests)?

Basic setup: reconstitute → dilute → mix reagents → incubate → read color change (needs incubator + basic reader).

Add-on costs (cheapest): incubator $29–$40, basic reader $180–$250. Total ~$209–$290.

I was thinking of running through a 0.22 µm filter first (for sterility) then doing the endotoxin test. Should be a good safety baseline.

Way cheaper than lab send-off ($200–$500 per sample).

Would you do it yourself? Yes/no? Consider for savings or pass and outsource? Thoughts on reliability/safety?

If your goal is simply to put your mind at ease, go for it. If your goal is to get refund or replacement from a vendor, an official lab result will likely be necessary.

I would probably do this if I could get my hands on them here. Even if I wouldn't get a refund, I'd rather not get sick and throw away my haul than get sick and throw away my haul : p

Just mind at ease and extra safety measure.

Im a little up there in age and have a younger GF and she's got the procreation bug in her system.

In other words I don't want to sterilize myself (86 the swimmers) or get a pain in the ass bacterial to get rid off (have to cut a body part off).

I would but the same kit costs 300€ in Germany unfortunately. I'm looking for a source to buy from.

Would love to hear your process and results. Would your method be able to quantify EU?

At least a few GB groups like PWGrove always do endotoxin testing now. But that is obviously limited to the peptides they sell.

Endotoxin kit link

the rest of the add-on items are found on amazon and ebay.
BTW just so you're aware the kit is for a chromogenic test, you'll need the gel clot test.

Cannot be put better , absolutely agree also vendors usually and only accept Janos test for refunds mostly

You can order a set of 16 endotoxin tests for $110($6.75 each). This is a quantitative gel test with a sensitivity to 0.25EU/ ml .

The one you linked is a chromogenic test, also consider that per test, you have a positive control, a negative control, a sample positive control and finally the sample. So one needs 4 rxns to test one sample.

I mean, are you really going to throw away a vial that has three eus?
You can dilute the sample to adjust the detection range.
