It's a fucking shame that cost factors in to your decision-making re: whether to seek surgery to address something that's causing you pain, alas that's the system we exist in.
I look at it a different way. Surgery has been an "option" for what, 150 out of 200,000,000 years of higher hominid existence? And I just happen to be in one of the most advanced countries on earth with some of the most sought after medical tech? Yeah it would be nice if everything was free and easy, but it's not like surgery is out of the question or even unattainable to me. I could walk into an ER and have it removed tomorrow in all likelihood. If you would have caught me early last year when I was still working, I could have just booked an appointment and coughed up the co-pay, hell I think I put extra money aside for medical stuff that year. It's no issue at all.

The real tragedy would be if I had lived at literally any other time in human existence, or if I lived in one of the 50-80 countries that, right this very moment, have crude or non-existent access to medical care. Don't shed a tear for me, shed a tear for them. I'm ice cold in my nice warm bed playing on my phone and taking my vitamins. Never in history has another been so fortunate.

Fair enough - and great if you can avoid surgery and all, just want you to get the best outcome here.

Though I will say I did have a little chuckle because I read this like Seinfeld's "Happy birthday? No such thing" speech 🤣

Just remember , there's alternative procedures all over the world(including US if you have insurance) to remove stones and keep the gallbladder intact, i did it and was the best decision i've made. China has been doing this procedure for over 20+ years and are the most advanced at certain techniques , and because they know cofactors for recurrence they have a checklist for eligibility to do it. Used to be a thought that a gallbladder that creates stones will always do that but now we know through studies it's not true. Crazy how little the western world knows about the importance of a gallbladder in breaking down fats and absorbtion of key vitamins such as A, D!!! , E and K. Many people have low vitamin D levels even when supplementing because their gallbladder is clogged(stones, sludge etc) and not functioning correctly.

Hoping to leave this here in case anyone debating getting surgery to remove. There's alternatives out there.

Lord of armchair-quarterbacking weighing in. Surgeons at the VA removed my gallbladder due to pancreatitis. Unfortunately, GLP-1s are known to trigger pancreatitis in some folks. It might be worth seeing your Doc to explore this contingency for peace of mind.

Solved the problem! Or at least reduced symptoms and kicked the rock further down the road.

Perhaps your daughter could benefit.

I did a refeed for a week and ate as much as I could, close to maintainence as I could, and avoided hard exercise.

I also cut out the calcium supplements, and I made sure to be religious with having K2 with my D3, also went to 3mg boron every morning, and upped my psilium husk dose.

But I think taurine is what did the most. I added taurine into my routine mostly for PM support, but I found that even a normal dose of it would make me start shitting my pants immediately. I'm talking five minutes after drinking taurine on a full stomach I'm rumbling, gurgling, shitting and farting all over the place for an hour until the liqufacted remains of my intestines make it to a yellow pile in the bowl.

This is not a normal effect of taurine, it's very odd for it to have such a pronounced disturbance in healthy individuals. Turns out, that's because it helps the gallbladder secrete bile acids, and people with fucked up gallbladders can have this effect.

So I stuck with it and added even more psilium husk, especially before and after the taurine, and after a few evenings on the commode, the effects started to subside and now I don't have the diarrhea.

After that, for the last 7 days, I dropped the bottom out of my calories (1500-1800 a day, tdee 2500-3100) and started exercising even harder. Since then I've had no trouble running 5 miles in the morning with barely anything in my stomach.
Awesome! I will be sure to share the info. Thanks!

Given that the symptoms might be gallstones, but are not classic symptoms, there is no way to be certain without an ultrasound that the problem is actually gallstones, and trying to manage a problem without a definite diagnosis, could involve a lot of messing around with supplements etc, for a symptom with a totally different underlying cause. Modern medicine's reductive logic does have the advantage of establishing clear cut diagnoses, which then enable treatments ( or no treatment if that is your preference ) based on a definite known problem, rather than symptoms that could have other causes. Not all upper abdominal discomfort or pain is gallstones.

Yeah man, that's kind of how self-diagnosing is. I'm confident that it's gallstones. The things that would make gallstones worse make it worse and the thngs that would improve the flow of bile make it better, and I've been losing 3lbs a week for the last 10 weeks, so I'm just gonna make the crazy guess and hope for the best. Worst case scenario, I take meds for gallstones and increase bile flow for no reason while putting off some mild damage to another organ. Or I could go to the doctor and pay a bunch of money and likely end up with the same meds after 3 appointments and 2 practices.

Losing weight too quickly causes gallbladder issues. Just something to keep an eye on if you do 1000+ calorie deficits
Good to know. I've been losing about 1lb / week. hitting a little plateau now. but I rather keep my gallbladder. so thanks for the heads up!

Have you been tracking your weekly calories and checking them against your weekly tdee? You can also take your weight loss from week 3 to present and use that to reverse calculate how many calories your deficit actually was and compare that to how many you were eating if you kept a log (just ask ai to do it for you lol)

If you've really been starving yourself for a while and losing consistently for 6-8 weeks, you could try a refeed for a week where you eat close to maintainence, then drop into a crazy deficit again.

I'm not good at monitoring it, but I am tracking it. I use lose it and have been into deficit. for a bit. I'm more consistent at the gym now so it could be muscle building while losing fat but who knows.

Had labs done 2 weeks ago and evertyhing is good.
