I look at it a different way. Surgery has been an "option" for what, 150 out of 200,000,000 years of higher hominid existence? And I just happen to be in one of the most advanced countries on earth with some of the most sought after medical tech? Yeah it would be nice if everything was free and easy, but it's not like surgery is out of the question or even unattainable to me. I could walk into an ER and have it removed tomorrow in all likelihood. If you would have caught me early last year when I was still working, I could have just booked an appointment and coughed up the co-pay, hell I think I put extra money aside for medical stuff that year. It's no issue at all.Spork said:It's a fucking shame that cost factors in to your decision-making re: whether to seek surgery to address something that's causing you pain, alas that's the system we exist in.
The real tragedy would be if I had lived at literally any other time in human existence, or if I lived in one of the 50-80 countries that, right this very moment, have crude or non-existent access to medical care. Don't shed a tear for me, shed a tear for them. I'm ice cold in my nice warm bed playing on my phone and taking my vitamins. Never in history has another been so fortunate.
