Y'all are nicer than I am! I told my kids if they want to go to college they better get all the scholarships they can or join the military because I'm not paying for it. Oldest will be starting college this fall, I'm more worried he will stay up all night playing video games and sleep through class/fail than anything else (can't judge him too harshly on that, I failed out my freshman year of college from choosing other activities over going to class). We had to let him fail in high school because no matter how much effort we put in to helping him, he wouldn't help himself. Luckily he caught on pretty quick and has been quite responsible since.

I was so worried my son would go wild in college, but he didnt. I think his sisters set the bar too high. So happy it is senior year!

I posted it some where else, but your relationship with your children as adults will be far longer than when they were young kids...You get about 18 summers with them...Enjoy those years...

But also, adult kids are pretty great too...I have 2 girls and a boy all in their 30s, all in long term relationships (2 married, one engaged), all three own their own houses, gainfully employed, no major health issues and all a delight to be around...

I attribute it to the luck of the draw and I know I am blessed...far better people than I, have had their share of kid problems and heartache...

But...I just came back from a visit with my daughter for 2-3 days, and then she and I flew up to visit my son, his wife and my 2 year old grandson... 😍

The pot of gold at the end of the cycle of life when the kids leave home is, Grandbabies! I hope everyone here can be so blessed...👍 🙂

Awwwwwww, so jelly, but my time will come. Im away on vacation with my two single adult daughters and loving every minute of it.

Mine (only) went to college on the opposite side of the country following their high school partner, who was in the military. Got their degree, got married, and went off to a series of trainings as a military spouse in various states. Just a few weeks ago learned their request to be stationed (on completion of final training) back at home was approved . They're coming home! Take heart, sometimes they fly back. 🙂

I cannot disagree with any of this. Admittedly we may be transferring some of our own sibling-related trauma onto our boys. Both my wife and I have siblings that are nothing more than drains on society, We lived that for much of our early lives placing us with responsibilities that neither of us asked for. I swear it's almost some sort of PTSD, So yes, i'm continuously wondering if i'm an asshole. lol If either decides to go off the rails, i'd prefer it to be now.
You're not an asshole! We're all just trying to make our kids' lives the best they can be, the best way we know how. I'm constantly reevaluating and recalibrating. There is plenty I would go back and change, if I could. Hopefully the kids will end up needing only a little bit of therapy 😅
