I'm up to 3mg/week after titrating up from 1mg/week 6 weeks ago. I've noticed with each dose increase an significant increase in my thirst - anyone else? Alot more thirst than prior to this GLP.

I wasn’t particularly thirsty but I didn’t drink enough water when I titrated too quickly at one point and became dehydrated (according to my scale) and just how I felt.

Just started week 3. I felt so dehydrated these last few days water would not help. Went to Walmart this morning and bought a bunch of gatorade I feel alot better now

No I feel the opposite, I have to remember to drink. :-(

GLP medications generally reduce thirst. I have seen scientific papers mention it. I used to drink too much fluid, about 8 litres a day , which dropped in half from semaglutide and is the same on tirzepatide 15mg plus 4mg of reta.

It might be worth getting your blood sugar checked.

well, this only started after i began the reta.

I find I must regularly keep up with my electrolytes otherwise symptoms of dehydration surface- headaches, dizziness, restless leg shakes, even darker urine.

I feel the same way after 2 weeks-Thirsty but hydrating plenty.

I have doubled the amount of water intake since starting Reta. This however diluted/washed out some of the electrolytes the body needs. My sodium dropped to dangerous levels. I now limit the amount of water at a cost of very dry mouth… but it seems to be working.

Also, this became a bigger problem with higher doses, eating less was not helping the situation… lowering the dose may help 🙂

Yes its on & off. I had it when I 1st started, then I had to remember to drink. I missed my day bc was waiting on a shipment from new vendor & took 1.5 instead of 2 (since trying new) & am soooo thirsty again all day

Noticeably I'm. I always had a problem with providing enough of liquids in my diets. Now I drink much more water, but doesn't have to push myself to drink like before. So yeah, I feel more thirsty on Reta, than before...

This is odd, you have to drink an awful lot of water to get measurably low sodium levels. Prior to starting GLPs I was drinking 8 litres / day, ( not deliberately, it just slowly crept up over years , partly due to a medication side effect dry mouth problem ) and no issues with low sodium. There are quite a few papers talking about how GLPs reduce fluid intake, and they are being considered as a treatment for excessive fluid intake - primary polydipsia. But GLPs dropped my intake to 3-4 litres.

You can increase sodium intake rather than just reduce water intake, if dry mouth is an issue either by adding extra salt to food or using salt tablets, but probably a good idea to get blood sodium levels checked occasionally if it had been measurably abnormal. And there are sprays and mouthwashes that act as artificial saliva if dry mouth is a big issue.

Still think it is odd so many people saying it makes them drink more, when it is a possible treatment for the opposite problem, and it had the opposite effect on me.

I am wildly more thirsty on Tirz that I was previously. I don't leave the house without my owala or I get a bit panicky. My 'go to' is a 3L bottle of water with two packets of sugar-free LiquidIV for flavor, and I drink about one of those every day or day/1/2. I was never a water drinker before.

I was drinking a shit load of water, and my last two blood tests showd low sodium and chlorides. I was just flushing it all out. I now do a sugar free Gatorade or half a Liquid IV daily. The Liquid IV has 500mg sodium, so that's why only a half. Gatorade has 250mg.

With tirz I didn't have it. But with reta well. It was regularly unexpected to much thirst.

To be honest, drinking 8L per day seems a lot! Could it be related to diabetes? Normal recommended intake is 2-3L for proper hydration.

I actually went from 2L before GLP to a bit over 4L and yes, my sodium, CO2 and a few other levels went very low.

Taking high level salt helped a little but not enough to return to normal. Metabolic pathways are impacted in many different ways while on this drug. I anticipate my levels won’t improve significantly until I come off of GLP and return to normal drinking/eating habits.

Happy to hear your levels are good!
