To bring or not to bring Mounjaro on trip abroad?

Like the title say. I'm going in vacation in September and I haven't decided if I should bring my glp1 medicine or not. I will be away about 18 days. I'm deciding between to pick up one of my super expensive prescriptions of mounjaro (tirz) 10mg in unopened packaging and a note from my doctor or just be without for thatv period.

I need input because I'm stuck.

Is it worth picking up a prescription for about $400 (40mg). Buying a cooling travel bag, risking the meds getting bad from the heat after about 15 hours travelling or is it just better to be without?

What side effects can I expect?

Anyone with experience?

I just got back from a 9 day cruise and 5 days at Disney World. I brought several peps with me along with Al the necessary supplies (sharps container, wipes, syringes, etc). I also purchased a 4AllFamily travel case. It came with 2 lids and an ice pack. The ice pack and regular lid will keep it cool for at least 36 hours. The other lid is USB powered and will keep it cool as long as it is plugged in. When I got to my ship cabin I put the peps in the fridge and handed the ice pack to my cabin steward to place in their commercial freezer. On departure day I got it back and placed it in the canister but also plugged it in to a portable battery pack. It lasted more than 14 hours on the battery pack until I could get into my resort room and put it in the fridge.

So, short answer is it depends on what your travel arrangements are. If you’ll have access to electricity to plug it in as well as a freezer for the ice pack and maybe a fridge also then you should be fine. As for TSA, they did ask to look inside because they said it looks like it could be an explosive device 🙂 but once they saw they never asked for a prescription or anything. Super easy.
 
I traveled all over Europe by plane, train, and automobile for a month this year with multiple reconstituted grey market peptides and needles with ZERO issues. Do a search on the forums for traveling with peptides and you will find a lot of reassuring discussions about this topic.
 
I can add that it's just the trip I'm worried about. Will have a working fridge when I'm there. Also the travel is to Thailand and I'm not going to take any gray products or needles and syringes just the prescribed one pen. It's not a country I want to get in trouble in for sure. Going to be flying domestic there too.
 
Nah dude, you’re fine to bring it with you. Compounded tirz stays viable at room temp (25C I think? 75F) for up to 21 days. I’m guessing reconned tirz with BAC would hold up similarly. I think Pharmacy tirz has a shelf life or refrigerated life of 2 years? Could be wrong, but I’m fairly sure it’s longer than compounded. Either way you cut it, you’re good to bring it for a 24 hour unrefrigerated trip.

In place of an unopened box take only a mounjaro pen with you and inject one dose before you go to vacation, if you are worried so much. No one asks you why do you have a mounjaro pen with you when you are travelling. Almost everybody uses GLP medications now. Unopened vials can be risky. But not a pen in a cool case.

I also have 6 boxes unopened 5mg Mounjaro pens, bought under prescription. At the end of August, I will also go to Turkey and will take them with me as a present for my brother. I know that he never agrees gray market peptides.. If they see and ask, they all are bought under prescription and have payment proof. I can say that I will stay 4-5 months because of some investment plans.

It needs to be an unopened box with my name on and with a doctor's note but I have a big cooling travel case I bought and that should be fine up to 60 hours.
 
Nobody bothered me at the airport on a trip from the US to Costa Rica and back. Not airport security, not Customs. The vial and syringes went through the X-ray and didn't even get diverted to the secondary inspection belt.

I think they see hundreds of diabetics pass through every day that pass through with similar stuff. That being said, it can't hurt to print up some professional-looking labels in case you're randomly stopped.
 
I've never bothered to bring my gray tirzepatide when I'm on vacation. It's just one less thing to deal with.

Skipping 1 or 2 weeks has never made of a difference in the long run. So what if I gain a pound? is my philosophy. It will come off as quickly as it came on.

This is good feedback. I haven't been away long enough to need to skip 1-2 weeks yet but will soon and have debated this same thing. My instinct was I'd barely notice and if only 1-2 doses, should get back to baseline quickly. Definitely not worried about a few pounds, more just feeling consistent.
 
I am going to China and chatgpt said firmly that China does not allow any peptides in checked baggage because they X-Rays everything and have the most advanced detection system. I will be there for two weeks and will have to watch my food intake. I traveled to South Korea in March and my Reta vials were in the checked baggage with bac water and syringes, no problem.

" Seizure and Detainment: China Customs heavily scrutinizes white powders and unlabelled liquids. If intercepted, your items will likely be seized, and you could face intense questioning or legal penalties for attempting to smuggle unregulated biochemical substances across the border."

That's good input. Thank you. I'm thinking that I will take my dose on the same day as I go and then the first thing when I get back. Missing 2 doses. Shouldn't make a huge difference. Maybe some tummy issues but that's bound to happen anyway when you're in rural redneck parts of Thailand and Laos.

Unlike most other comments, I agree with you about being concerned about travel to Thailand and their strict rules. This isn’t a domestic trip to Disney or Western Europe. I mostly travel to Europe, so trips to places like China, Thailand, Russia, etc. would definitely have me nervous like you. I’d probably do a bunch of research.

If you’d feel more comfortable with traveling with an Rx, why not get a compounded tirzepatide Rx? That will give you documentation that you were prescribed the medication. Doesn’t have to be brand name…
 
I’d just skip it and enjoy your trip if I were you. Thai food is glorious. Have you ever watched Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason?

Unfortunately we don't have that here. No other option than the branded ones. Different system which usually works great because it's free over a certain amount but not these kinds of meds for some reason. They're not covered.
