The US Supreme Court scrambled the trade landscape Friday with a decisionstriking down the centerpiece of President Trump's second-term tariff program.

The 6-3 ruling in Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump appears set to immediately halt a massive section of Trump's tariffs announced last year on "Liberation Day" using a 1977 law called the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The law gives the president the ability to declare an economic emergency and take action but doesn't specify tariffs as a remedy.

I bet prices wont come down a cent here or in the US. ...Companies already saying if they recoup that money (they already did passing it onto us) they can lower prices and raise wages, neither will happen.... in my state they promised casinos, fracking and legalizing medical weed would cut our property taxes. A whopping 25 to 75 bucks a year was the result.

I paid ~$11k extra in tariffs last year on something that was already on the water when the tariffs were announced. It wasn't a big issue, but I wouldn't mind a refund. A few months before the tariff I had another order for nearly twice the value that cost ~1/10th as much to clear customs.

Maybe I can get a partial refund on the car purchase as they jacked up the price due to tariffs. One can dream....

Trump could expand tariffs under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 or further invoke Section 232 for national security reasons. These have been used before and might withstand scrutiny if narrowly tailored

But the decision may not be the final word. From the Trade Expansion Act to the Trade Act of 1974 and even Depression-era statutes, multiple legal avenues remain that could allow Trump to reassert aggressive trade powers
