Hey Everyone,

I need a little bit help. Currently I'm taking Reta, 3mg twice a week. Currently in my 3rd Month. About 4 days ago, I suddenly got diarrhea. It came without increasing the dose. And I think it's not Reta-related. But because I ate something bad. I can eat or drink normally. So I eat and drink water and electrolytes. But the diarrhea does not get better for now.

How can I support the body to recover asap? And does it make sense to take activated charcoal or enterosgel?

Don't inject the next dose and wait. If it stops inject again and then if it starts back, you know the reason. In my case, reason of 3 days long heavy diarrhea was Reta. I could also drink, eat and function normally in little time out of the wc.

I had diarrhea with both tirzepatide and retatrutide. It became severe whenever I tried to titrate above the maximum dose I could tolerate (5 mg/week with both). Even at 5 mg/week, I had persistent diarrhea, although it was manageable.

I eventually decided to stop all GLP-1 medications for a few weeks to see whether the diarrhea would resolve. After about 3 weeks, the diarrhea completely stopped.

Five weeks later, I restarted tirzepatide at the initial dose. I am currently in my third week at 2.5 mg/week, and I have had no diarrhea at all so far.

I’m hoping that, over the coming weeks, either by titrating much more slowly (for example, increasing the dose by only 1 mg after staying at the same dose for at least 8 weeks) or possibly by stacking with retatrutide or cagrilintide, I’ll be able to keep the diarrhea under control.

tbh. I don't think, that GLP-1s caused the diarrhea. It feels much more like it was caused by something bad, that I ate. But Reta may make recovery difficult. At the current point, I don't realy want to stop Reta. The last Pin was today. And because of the half life of the medication, it won't be out of the system for the next 3-4 Weeks.

You know, for the first couple of days, it felt like something is really wrong. Something has to get out. I know such reactions. And these often happen to me, when I eat something not so fresh. Where I get within minutes a similar reaction.

Had the opposite so bad i went to a doc to get checked out. She did say i was being dramatic. But it was a scary couple days. Weird how this med does that.
I love that your doctor told you that you were being dramatic.

Maybe this wont be helpful or whatevs, but I would rather have diarrhea then be constipated.
I had a constipation in the first month I got on reta. The key difference is: With a constipation you can have a normal life. And when you want go to the toilet to produce a diamond. And with diarrhea I can't do anything productive out of my apartment. For example, I had to have a yearly technical check for my car. The Appointment takes about 1.5h with traffic, waiting and the check. And here in Bulgaria it's not like in other countries, where you have a customer toilet.

I will have diarrhea if I eat anything that taste good while on Reta.

I thought I had food poisoning on my very first pin of 0.5mg reta. Couldn't sleep for 3 nights from the stomach cramping. Figured it out when I took my second dose and the 'party' started again.

In addition to soluble fiber and probiotics, KPV and BPC may help, as well as a lower-fat diet and split dosing. And there's always Imodium and the BRAT diet for acute issues, but Imodium wasn't very effective for me with diarrhea from tirz.

For the truly desperate, going to a pain clinic for a small/micro dose of opioids would slow things down. An OTC version would be kratom, but there are heart concerns with that supplement.

Something similar happened to me. I ate some cold cooked chicken and had awful bloody diarrhoea for two days after. Ever since (3-4 weeks) I have had diarrhoea after eating and even after hot drinks or soup.

I have an irrational fear of doctors so I turned to AI (please don't judge) and apparently Reta can make your stomach extra sensitive at the best of times, and combined with food poisoning it makes for a really slow recovery.

I dropped my dose from 2mg to 1.5mg and was still suffering. I have added some peppermint tablets before meals and it's helped so much. Hoping my poor belly recovers soon because it's exhausting having to manage the constant upset tummy.

I hope you feel better soon!

Lots of great info. To chime in with my experience, I typically only get the runs when I eat poorly. Since starting I've changed my diet to whatever I cook here at home. I aim for whole foods, but whenever I go off the rails and eat like I walked out the club at 2 am looking for the greasiest fattiest food I can find... well that's when the fireworks begin. 🤷🏽

Same. Constipation is by far my worst side effect on reta. I never thought I would envy people that have diarrhea. 🤣

Thanks! I know, a lot of people here said to eat fiber. I tried, but it tasted like glass and was sharp and now my Internet is out - ok, just kidding. I also researched a little bit. And it seems like the condition was mostly because of fermentation in the stomach. Because I ate carbs. The first time in a while. And also drank some Coke, that helped me before. Before I was on Carnivore diet. And now it made things even worse.

Today I ate boiled eggs and hat tea and electrolytes and still water. And at least since today morning I hadn't have to run to the toilet. I hope it will stay like that.

I also try not to eat processed food. But I have no idea, what I ate that was bad. The day it started, I ate mussels in the afternoon and Plov (Rice with Meat) my neighbor made.

Why?? I don't understand it!

Btw. the secondary gain of the diarrhea was, that I finally dropped my BMI below 40 🎉🎉🎉

Additional recommendations for patients with diarrhoea

Generous hydration, for example with water, lemon and a teaspoon of bicarbonate

Avoid isotonic drinks intended to be used in the context of sport activities

Avoid dairy products, laxative juices or meals, coffee, alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, very cold or very hot foods, products with sweeteners ending in “ol” (sorbitol, mannitol, xylitol, maltitol), including candy and gum

Avoid (or temporarily reduce your intake of) foods with high fibre content * such as grain and seed products, such as grain cereals, nuts, seeds, rice, barley, whole grain bread or baked goods vegetables such as artichokes, asparagus, beans, cabbage, cauliflower, garlic and garlic salts, lentils, mushrooms, onions, sugar snap, snow peas skinned fruits, apples, apricots, blackberries, cherries, mango, nectarines, pears, plums

Eat chicken broth, rice, carrots, very ripe fruit without skin

Generally fiber is absolutely the wrong thing to eat if you have diarrhoea, apart from psyllum husk, which is the only fiber I know of that can reduce diarrhoea, and even then not sure it is ideal for a more acute diarrhoea problem.

So long as you do not feel ill or feverish or have blood in the poo, you will most likely be fine and have it settle down soon enough. 4 days is quite a bit longer than your average gastro or food poisoning type diarrhoea, but not that unusual. If it does not go away or you feel unwell off to the doctor.

The only thing that really matters is getting enough fluid in. Usually if there is no vomiting , just the diarrhoea , getting dehydrated is very unlikely, you will just get thirsty and drink more. Oral rehydration solutions can be very useful as they can help get fluids in and reduce diarrhoea by having the optimal salt / sugar / water balance to be absorbed easily.

Just eat what you feel like eating , smaller amounts more often, generally your body will tell you not to eat huge rich meals when this is happening anyway.

It is not impossible though not super likely it is the reta, but waiting to have the next dose till it has settled down makes sense.
