Quick travel question (not flying)

Hi, I am no stranger to traveling with meds as a diabetic but I just started Reta and am probably overthinking the “do not shake once reconstituted or it will degrade” rule. I have a 10 day trip and will take 2 shots during this time. I do not want to bring the entire vial. Would you prefill two syringes or buy a pen, or something else? I have insulin coolers and a frio pack and it will be in the fridge once I get there but am I over worrying about prefilled syringes getting too shaken up being carried around in my purse/car?

My nurse injector (for botox etc) also does a lot with peptides and she always suggests prefilling if it's for a short term situation like this, but if they're in a syringe, and it's pretty airtight, it's unlikely they'll be degraded from shaking.

You're welcome! I think the bigger worry is making sure the plungers don't get depressed and they stay cold til you use them.

Yes. Be carefull. The pressurization changes can plunge out your Reta. Can’t you get a small vial and ad the dose their bring a couple syringes.

You'll find a lot of threads on this site that attest to the non-delicate nature of the GLP1 peptides, confirmed by Janoshik. The minor shaking that you get on a road trip will not affect the efficacy of your Reta from everything that I've read. There is a concern, however about leaving peptides in a syringe for longer than it takes to fill and inject.

This seems like adding an extra step an entire extra container, which seemed bad if stability is what I’m worried about.

I know people get up in arms arguing about how long vials/can should last so I won’t be specific but I will have the vial way, way past that week so it seems unnecessary to bring it all.

It’s not that unstable. You can get small vials cheap. Transfer a few doses and toss after use. I know many people that do that. But to each their own.

I noticed Amazon sells travel packs to hold small vials with cooling. Does anyone use one or recommend a great one.

As others have said, Peter Magic of Janoshik has said that the shaking thing is not a serious problem

I've got a couple follow-up questions along the lines of this thread. We are taking a 2.5 week trip to Europe and I don't want to go without my Reta for that long. I was thinking of loading up 2 syringes since I'm only taking 6mg/wk currently and have just reconstituted a 60mg vial that I would rather not leave out of refrigeration for that long. I'm less worried about shaking, but just the stability of the Reta after 2+ weeks of being stored in a toothbrush holder out of refrigeration. Should it be ok?

Last week I traveled with two prefilled syringes because I didn’t want to risk carrying my newly reconstituted cartridges and exposing the whole lot to temperature variations. What I did was took a piece of cardboard (or you can use an index card l, card stock, etc.) and attached the syringes to it with labels from my NIIMBOT. I used the labels because I had two different peptides, but if the same peptides, I would have just taped them to the cardboard. They got taped to the card at the needle cap and directly under the top of the plunger. The card overhang protected both ends of the syringes. Slipped the card into my 4allfamily nomad with ice pack and was good to go.

For a longer trip, like 2.5 weeks in Europe, I put the amount I need plus a bit extra to account for loss into a 3ml vial and carry the number of needed insulin syringes plus an extra. All of this goes into an insulated canister with ice pack. I refrigerate where I can or use ice to keep it cool when I can but I don’t sweat it if it gets to room temperature. I do avoid things like keeping it in a hot car, etc.

I’m more worried about the growth of bacteria versus degradation of the GLP-1. So, what ever I am carrying gets filtered into the 3ml vial. I make sure to pre-plan my travel stash and pull the 3ml travel vial during reconstitution rather than pulling from an already made vial that has been punctured previously.

From what I can tell this is the best one to buy. But a few members have talked about a coffee mug or water bottle that has a tight fitting top. Put the vials in a baggy and throw some Ice cubes in a separate baggy to cool. This will be my plan. I like it. Here’s the link.

I travel all the time. I have a few pens I travel with. I stick them in a little travel case that even came with an ice pack and a TSA-Precheck card.

haven't had any issues so far.
