You cannot have 90% or even 10 or more percent out of work and still have a functional economy that can plow hundreds of billions into AI research and data centers, if unemployment on that scale starts actually happening there will be economic, social and political consequences, including very strong pressure to restrict them to limit economic damage. No government is going to tolerate massive drops in GDP or revenue for long. Even if AI can replace workers , it cannot replace consumers with jobs spending money.

Anything approaching that level of mass unemployment is likely to result in literally masses of people with pitchforks and fires burning down data centers.

Already stocking up peptides & other provisions I deem necessary. For similar reason you laid out plus several other reasons. Including an obsession with having enough peptides in my freezer. And everytime I re-inventory, I feel the need for another purchase.

Regardless of my politics or personal beliefs about what's happening in the world right now, I try to separate my emotional reactions from my practical ones.

From a purely practical standpoint: I'm concerned that continued escalation at the Strait of Hormuz, combined with other geopolitical instabilities, will make international shipping significantly more difficult and expensive very quickly. Layer on top of that the likely sharp rise in manufacturing and materials costs, and the math starts to get uncomfortable. As a result, I have started stockpiling (5+ years worth) my most used/valued peptides for long-term freezer storage. This isn't shortage hoarding. This is long-term political contingency planning.

Anyone else operating from a similar place of practical paranoia?

I've seen similar analysis, and I tend to agree with it. It's not just oil prices, it's all the materials that come from oil.

Some of us already are. Buying supplements and medical supplies from Amazon is risky, too many fake products and questionable brands.

And look at that: Innovation led to the entirely new career path of "AI center security defense agents" to keep those people at bay as well as the jobs that will be created to support those agents. Now you could object that those humans will eventually be replaced by terminator robots, but then people will have to be hired to design the factories that build and service the terminator robots as well as morticians and funeral directors.

It’s already happening: all of us gymrats working on the treadmills and bikes are being used to power those AI Data Centers! We’ve become like those kidnapped Africans on those galley slave ships, chained to our benches and rowing in unison!
