Greetings from New Jersey! A little about me ...

I’m a father, husband and licensed professional (not in a health/science field) in my 5th decade of life. I’m committed to dancing at the weddings of my future grandchildren, and I can’t stomach the thought of doing anything that might take that option away from anyone else.

I’ve struggled with disordered eating (and its cumulative knock-on effects) since childhood. A year ago, I began a GLP-1 journey that completely changed just about everything in my life for the better. That journey started with reliable information from a trusted source. Crowd-sourcing (the usual forums) has definitely helped me along the way, but I don’t have infinite time to sift through a near-infinite amount of information. I’ve been looking for people who are equally curious and committed to accumulating applied knowledge - reliably and in real time – who are NOT trying to sell me anything. From what I’ve read so far, this seems to be a good place for me.

I’m a firm believer in self-sovereign health and have concluded that GLP-1s will be an essential tool in optimizing my health-span for the rest of my life. Among other things, I want to learn the science behind GLP-1s, how they affect the body, how to better assess their safety/effectiveness, how to leverage them beyond weight-loss, how they’re regulated, what affects their availability/pricing, how they work (or don’t) for others and why, and best practices. Most important, I want to learn which questions I should be asking but don’t yet know to ask. My short-term goal is to become a better healthcare consumer and resource for family and friends, many of whom are taking (or seriously considering) a GLP-1. Long-term, I’m curious to see if this hobby turns into something more.

As for my experience with weight loss, GLP-1 medications, and similar things ….

I've yo-yo dieted for decades. Name the fad, I've tried it. About a year ago, I weighed 200 lbs - not good for someone who is 5’4”. I couldn’t stick to any diet, even those (few) that worked in the past. On the recommendation of a friend, I partnered with an incredible functional health medicine practitioner (now also a friend) who started me on a dual-agonist GLP-1 (compounded). With his guidance, I experimented with dosing/timing and found what seemed to work best for me. After 52 weeks, I was down 31 lbs. More important, I have gained the bandwidth to take control of my health the way I’ve always wanted since I was 13 years old.

Daily nutrition during the past year:

1,800 calories a day (approx.)

1 gram of (animal) protein per lb. of goal body weight (approx.)

60+ oz water daily (usually with zero-calorie, zero-caffeine sweetener)

Supplements: Multivitamin, vitamin D, vitamin B complex, and creatine

Activity level I've worked-up to:

Moderate weight training 3-4 days/week

10k steps daily

I hit a plateau a few months ago and have decided it’s time to reset my metabolism and explore other GLP-1 medications, protocols, etc. In consultation with my doctor, I’m currently leveraging what I’ve learned about GLP-1s to explore other metabolic modulators, as well.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!
