I am getting close to my goal weight, within 5lbs and am curious to hear from those that have been on reta for 2+ yrs . Are you microdosing / cruising ? Once I reach my goal weight I plan on finding a maintenance dosage, currently on 2mg, started w .5mg in April. Or, maybe I will cycle off to see how that feels. I do a ton of cardio each week, count 95% of all calories, eat mostly healthy .

I guess what I am asking is this, is anyone noticing any negative side effects physically or mentally from longterm usage?

Knowone? I know there's a ton of post that have a bit of information here and there on this. I have been looking myself and info is very hit and miss. Let's put it all in one place.

Some people saying not to cycle off, I see there piont and mostly agree. I'm going to ask questions to start conversation:

1. If you have changed your habits, you can keep your new habits and you prefer not to stay on glp's. How have you quit you glp? (I guess those people are no longer on this forum?)

2. There must be a lot of people who quit taking glps, as once you lost the wieght, dr can no longer prescribe them. Then you look for grey, find this place. Spend the next month removing your "no source discussion " banner then get back on glps. Tell your story. What was that month like? Did you jump back on the same glp? Did it work just as good?

3. Did you switch glp's for maintenance? Why? What was it like?

I’ll be following this. It’s a great topic. I personally don’t want to take them long term. Hoping to build the good habits and wean off

I switched to Tirz for maintenance. Love Reta and I think it works a little better for substance usage/food noise issues (for me, at least) however I'm not convinced about the wisdom of being on a glucagon agonist long term. Jury is definitely still out on that one.

I'm playing with a maintenance dose. Been jumping between 6mg and 8mg. I've holding pretty steady bouncing up/down with 3lbs here. Did 6mg this morning, so we'll see what the scale say next Friday or Saturday. I was on 10mg for reference.

Over a 1 1/2 years and still at 7.2 mg, never went higher than 8 mg.

You do not mention how much weight you lost, and I think it is a very important issue in terms of what might happen in the longer term. Basically the more weight you lost the more likely and more important it becomes to stay on the reta. Especially if older or if there are any obesity related health issues like increased blood sugars, lipids or blood pressure, or any physical damage from it like heart disease or arthritis.

I would argue staying on it permanently is by far the best solution if a lot of weight was lost or there were obesity related health issues, but trying stopping it is reasonable so long as you are prepared to restart it if needed if weight starts creeping back up, people do exist who manage to establish long term better eating and exercise patterns after weight loss, unfortunately it is just not that common.

Long term effects of reta are far less well established than for sema or tirz, just because it is newer, but it is very likely it will have the same effects, reducing just about everything that goes wrong with bodies as they age, but especially heart disease and preventing and treating diabetes, and likely a lot of different cancers.

Long term bad effects, mostly just the usual side effects , skin sensitivity, gastrointestinal upsets, but almost zero chance of them getting worse than before in the long term. Possible risk of NAION, rare eye disorder, but at the same time reduced risk of macular degeneration, cataracts and glaucoma, which are vastly more common. Slight increased risk of pancreatitis and gallstones ( usually while losing weight rather than afterwards ) Can cause reduced muscle mass, but really only an issue in the very elderly or chronically ill, with pre existing low muscle mass.

I have been on reta 5-6mg , with tirz 15mg for a bit over a year. Having lost most of the weight before starting GLP's, I am basically taking them to keep the weight off, but mostly so I do not have to be hungry all the time for the rest of my life. Trying to keep off 80 kilos without GLP drugs was extremely hard, with them pretty tolerable, and I almost have a balance between hunger and the right calorie intake to keep weight stable, which was a total impossibility without the glp drugs. Only significant side effect is weird skin sensations, but mainly only a problem if I up the dose even a tiny bit.

34lbs - 238 to 204lbs goal is 198-200. I'm a tall drink of water, 6 5" , normal blood work. Over the weekend, I increased call intake to around 2200 from about 1800 along w a ton of cardio , food tracking. Plan to stay at 2mg until I hit goal then figure out cruise level. I am a hyper responder being on 2mg as of today, started in April @ .5mg.

Ya, I am weighing about 3 days a week. Critical to stay focused, requires you to reflect on food choices BUT you also gotta track which, is easy.

In maintenance w/ Reta since 5/25 ( when I made goal weight w/tirz). I pin 3mg 1x per week. Weight still stable, and I eat, albeit small portions and easily satisfied. Labs still good as they were w/ Tirz. No sides with exception of some mild anhedonia, but it subsided after a few weeks. I still have stash of Tirz & cagri, should a need arise. I'll be a lifer, as long as I can source it.

I've been on Reta for about a year. I take 8mg weekly, I was at 10 but, the side effects were too much. I weighed about 233 and then dropped 20# in about 6 months and plateaued. So, now I take 2.7mg of Cagri also and I seem to be locked in at 206#s.

I think it dulls desire in all things a bit, food cravings, alcohol, exercise, a bit of a hit on everything. But my bloodwork is great these days and I hope to lose another 20# before titrating down on both and then hopefully, a low dose of Reta will lock me in around 180.

Then with a low dose, maybe energy and desire to do stuff will return to better levels.

Maybe my desire to cut the lawn is down because it's 85 and feels like 103.

I've been on reta for 1,5 years now. I am at my goal weight, so I do a maintenance dose once a week (2mg). I used to do 5mg split into two doses each week.

The only side effect i'm struggling with is the loss of libido/sexual desire. I tried to fully quit for a few weeks, and I noticed my libido increased slightly (but still not at the level it was before). Unfortunately the food noise came back as well, so I went back to reta on a maintenance dose. I'm now going to try kisspeptin, to hopefully help with this issue.

I've only been on Reta 3.5 months or so and I did notice the libido thing after a couple months. Started taking 5.0 mg Tadalafil (Cialis) daily, fixed me right up. Definitely something I would recommend you look into.

I’m a few weeks shy of 1 year on reta. Took it nice and slow and dropped 55 lbs in 11 months and went a little below goal weight. Still working on recomp as I feel like those last 15 lbs really hit my muscle and strength hard.

I never got above 3 mg/week. I titrated up slowly and I’m titrating down slowly as well. Stepped down to 2.5 mg and held that for a month. Just went to 2 mg today and will hold that. My plan is to continue to slowly titrate down and see if I can hold my weight constant. I initially planned to go all the way down to zero, but we’re learning so much about the health benefits of these drugs for things other than weight management that I may opt to keep a small dose indefinitely even if I don’t need it for weight.

Feel you on this. My experience has been that emotionally I am a tad dulled. W the weight loss and food management I have been more motivated to exercise and weight train , things I have done my entire life but, results showing more w weight loss. I have noticed thought that , for example, I cannot get thru a movie or show on netflix lol. So bored. Also noticed, I am a little more pessimistic about the world. Nothing crazy, just a little more negative. Overall, thought, not any bad side effects as I went low and slow. After 4 months up to 2mg. Agree about the sexual desire piece but it has only been a little for me.

I had observed a couple of family members and a couple friends rebound after weight loss using Tirz. I knew if I was going to start GLP's I needed to commit to at least a year or two as I started with nearly 100 pounds that I wanted to lose. Truthfully, 75 pounds would probably be enough, but of course my mind goes back to that number on the scale, which would be 90 pounds total lost. I am only just over five months in and 30 pounds down. Going low and slow like this is supposed to be better, but it is hard to have patience! I'm hoping for at least another 30 pounds by Christmas, but let's be honest, I could possibly lose all I need to (60 total) in six months if I really buckle down.

Bottom line is: I'm here for the long haul and I don't care if I have to take one or 2 mg once or twice a week for the next few years, as long as I can get myself to a healthy optimal weight- and remain there

Thanks for the tip! I assume this only works for men? 🙁
