Janoshik blind testing - is it actually blind if you have to declare the compound?

Putting together my first order for independent testing with Janoshik on some recent Reta I picked up. They advertise a blind GLP-1 screening that tests for Sema, Tirz, and Reta without knowing what's in the sample beforehand. Got an email back from them this morning saying they need to know the exact AAS compound due to customs requirements before they can receive the sample, but assure me it doesn't change their blind testing method.

Curious if anyone has dealt with this before. Is this a new customs thing or specific to shipping from the US? I get that declaring it for customs is probably a separate step from how they actually run the test, and the vials are labeled R20 so it's not exactly a mystery anyway. Just wondering if this is something that affects the accuracy or validity of the results at all or if I'm overthinking it.

Anyone shipped to Janoshik recently and run into this?

You don't know the exact compound, that is their job to figure out. From a process perspective there are many ways of achieving blindness. I'd assume that the chemist performing your task isn't informed about whatever you hope it is.

That was my thinking as well, I just thought it was odd that the requirement for providing the compound wasn't disclosed up front.

Just say it’s a different compound. So if you send in tirz, say it’s Reta. You’ll find out if it’s really blind, but I bet it is.

do you have to declare the strength? example tirz 20 or 30?

It wasn’t specifically asked for in that email, but they do ask you do let them know the amount of the sample you’re sending. In this case the mg of the vials provided.

This is probably helpful from a reporting perspective since I imagine not that many people would respond afterwards if the sample was correct. Obviously when things are wrong, people are typically more responsive.

Regardless of the why, they run the tests and give you the real picture of what's in there. They wouldn't be the "gold standard" without having accuracy and the ability to tell you what's in the vial (or not in some cases). I would rather tell them what's supposed to be in there and have them flag a problem if it test as a different pep.

Same with a vial I tested. I sent it unlabeled but they needed to know the compound. Crazy.

fair point. I think I just got hung up on the wording of “blind test” and then being asked what’s in it. At the end of the day all I really care about is having accurate results.

As I recall they did used to offer a 100% blind test and it cost more but you didn't have to name it. I don't see that option on their site anymore. I know that it did used to be there.

I was recently part of a test group (about 2 weeks ago) and we sent in our vials to Jano. We just labelled it as GLP1, nothing else. Since it was shipped within the EU then customs were probably not a thing and we didn't have to clarify which compound was sent. A few days later we got the results with mass/purity as expected from a blind test.

I believe Peter from Jano even said in an interview a while back that people intentionally mislabel the compounds sent in to see if they can figure it out.
