Is it a bad plan to recon my Reta with just 0.5 mL of BAC?

Would like to get the thoughts & recommendations from the experienced group here...

I know typically it's suggested to use 1 mL BAC for the 10 mg Reta vial - easy math from there on forward for injecting etc.

But my question is, is there anything wrong with using less? Like, using 0.5 mL BAC to recon the Reta 10?

The reason I ask is - injecting more than 20 units kind of gives me the heebie-jeebies. I know it's probably silly, but the less liquid to inject, the better in my mind. That's why I was thinking I'd do my next recon with less BAC, and then could stick with the 10 unit injections.

However, I've read here and there that perhaps 0.5 mL isn't sufficient BAC and risks uneven mixing and therefore dosing. Is that true?

Nothing wrong at all. I also recon to keep my pins at 20 IU or less. I have R50 that I recon with 1 mL BAC.

No. Theoretically, there is a density/concentration limit for solubility, but .5ml/10mg isn’t anywhere near it.

It is just a mental block and you can get over it! I've injected 80 units multiple times and it really is nothing noteworthy. If you've ever cooked something and can imagine a teaspoon measurement for reference, 80 units is like 16% of a teaspoon.

If you’re within 10% of 0.5ml it’s a pretty negligible difference (with Reta), I think some other peps where accuracy is more important is not recommended.

Base concentration:

10mg + 0.5mL -> 20mg/mL

1mL = 100units -> 1unit = 0.01mL

So: 20mg/mL * 0.01mL = 0.2 mg per unit

So if you have a 10% error in either bac amount when reconstituting or dosing with your insulin needle/pen that’s 0.02mg per unit.

@10 units that’s 0.2mg error in this example, 2mg -> 1.8/2.2mg. If you’re comfortable with that, no issue. Personally with Reta I think that’s totally okay, some other peps maybe not.

I do .6ml to t30 and pin 30 units at a time

Does anyone have any guidance for a lower limit? I have T10s that might not get used until they become a single dose. At that point, I suspect I'll try 0.25mL, but a heads up would be nice.

What's the deal? I do 6 mg twice. One on me and one on the wife. Only a few seconds more of pushing the syringe. One more 6mg, then I might mix a R50 and the pins will be 36 units. Actually, I can recon 2 of these. 2 weeks worth each vial.

Draw up 1 ml and squirt it into a spoon. It's really a very small amount. I take an injectable med that's 100 units every 2 weeks and I really don't notice the difference.
