improvements in intestinal permeability and fatigue were seen after administering Innovall FD, a probiotic containing both b. coagulans MY01 and b. subtilis MY02, 2x daily for 3 months. with just probiotics, the patient relapsed in both intestinal permeability and fatigue. medicinal clay was then administered (luvos-heilerde imutox, 3 x 900mg capsules daily) + another round of probiotics which resulted in a stabilised reduction of intestinal permeability and fatigue after 6 months. treatment with clay stopped after 4 months to prevent potential malabsorption.

i'm substituting innovall fd with two separate single strain probiotics (2x daily of each) and imutox medicinal clay with food grade sodium bentonite in enteric capsules (3x daily).

but. this is specifically to improve intestinal permeability. these bacteria have synergistic effects and have been shown to increase production of tight junction proteins and improve intestinal barrier integrity. you are most definitely nuking your microbiome with regular antibiotic use. i found one study showing that b. coagulans and subtilis can help maintain gut barrier function and reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines with regular antibiotic use

so this might help to offset some damage. but ultimately you're going to need more than two strains to recover from gut dysbiosis.

I am trialing oral BPC on top of this protocol.
 
It is a case study , it is not even close to proof it works, except in that one case. The problem with treatment for chronic gut problems is there are a very large number of treatments that might help some people some times, but very few that work reliably or consistently or have really high quality scientific evidence that they work.

I have tried a dozen or so different supplements and probiotics in an attempt to find things that helped, in the end losing a lot of weight , eating less food overall and generally low fodmap diet seem to have made the biggest difference. Problem is IBS-D , on top of residual symptoms from ulcerative colitis in "remission", where 40% or so of people have ongoing gut pain and fatigue despite clinical remission.

It is food-grade clay and probiotics, so I am not worried about it being a potential bust. $45 total purchase for my trial.

You might be interested in the B1 deficiency research that is far more robust in linking thiamine deficiency (induced by the lacking cofactor of magnesium of the typical American diet) to IBS and other gut disorders.

This clinical trial saw a reduction in long covid associated fatigue after just 14 days of supplementing with the products ImmunoSEB + ProbioSEB CSC3.

ProbioSEB CSC3: blend of Bacillus coagulans LBSC (DSM 17654), Bacillus subtilis PLSSC (ATCC SD 7280) and Bacillus clausii 088AE (MCC 053). ImmunoSEB: a blend of enzymes, proteins and antioxidants: (serrapeptase, bromelain, amylase, lysozyme, peptidase, glucoamylase, catalase, papain, lactoferrin)

the dosing schedule was:ImmunoSEB: two capsules in the morning, two capsules in the evening taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after eating) with 1–2 cups of warm or room temperature waterProbioSEB CSC3: two capsules daily taken with lunch

Interesting study, but the results are so far out of the expected that I find it hard to believe. A simple treatment that reduces post covid fatigue by 90% vs 15% for placebo in 2 weeks is more or less front page news level research. No other treatments have ever shown anywhere near that level of effect. So in effect they are making extraordinary claims, and that requires extraordinary evidence. My highly prompted and skeptical version of chatgpt believed there were valid criticism to be made of the study. If any scientist thinks this result has a small chance of being real there will be people out there now already trying to replicate it, and I might believe it if it is replicated, but unfortunately it probably won't be.

I haven't made any claims. I am putting out the published studies and cases and trialing one myself. I am sorry if it is interpreted as otherwise. I am simply trialing one myself.
 
I wish the probiotic studies published their blends/biomes because many people seeking relief will buy a probiotic thinking that it's the same thing.

It's the authors of the study that has made the extraordinary claims, not you.
 
My criticism of the study was that it seemed too good to be true, not intended at all to be a criticism of the poster. I am interested to see it , and it would be amazing if it turned out to be that easy a problem to solve, but given the very long history of post viral fatigue and complete lack of any effective therapies , I doubt it.
 
How long have you been testing and what has your personal experience been?

I agree with the others that the results seem too good to be true (making me skeptical of the study), but always interesting in hearing about the experiences of others.

Shortly after my second case of covid, I could not keep food down. I had gastropaeresis and digestive pain. I have had a biopsy / colonoscopy that turned up nothing to note.

For the past year and a half, I have had chronically loose stool and IBS like symptoms, weird food allergies, nausea, bloating, and occasional acid reflux.

Previously, taking H1 and H2 antihistamines have been the only things to help with digestive issues aside from odansteron for nausea.

I had tried taking VSL#3 from Costco's pharmacy without success.

At the moment, I am having less bloating and no acid reflux and, yes this is subjective, my overall well-being feels improved. I haven't noticed any increase in energy levels yet and do not yet know if I am digesting food any differently. My stool is actually solid for once.

I haven't attempted to broaden my overall diet yet. I am mostly eating fish, eggs, steak, and soups.
