Recently ive been having trouble pinning myself and I dont know if its due to the needles i have or my skin. For reference, I just started using 30 g 1/2 in. needles instead of my normal 31 g and the past few days I just havent been able to get a pin in my glutes. I bent two needles now trying to pin and the reason I cant tell if its the needle or my skin is because I have been pinning my tesa only in my glutes everyday and so im wondering if the skin now somehow hardened. Whenever i even try, it hurts like hell and it never used to hurt with the 31g but yet it goes in smooth in my stomach. Any thoughts?

If it hurts that much and needles are bending, that spot sounds irritated rather than just a gauge issue.

Does this happen in both your glutes?

Depending ofc. how much you pin, but if you change side every time than it should not be so problematic.

I do need to stab a bit more when injecting in my glutes compared to my abdomen, so if the needles are slightly more blunt then I can imagine that it hurts more.

It is in both glutes yea which when i pin my glutes, i already rotate sites. Either way I think imma give them a break for a bit and return back to them in maybe a week lol

Those should be easier since thicker (although might be more painful). Maybe the quality is not good. Is it the same brand as the others?

For pain maybe try to ice before or use lidocane?

I think it's hard to reach the glutes and you can't really see what angle you're going in at. So I avoid that. Instead I like to pin on my hip and I pinch off a piece of it pretty firmly and make sure I'm going in at a 90-degree angle right into the middle of the pinched area.

How many times are you drawing up with the needle before injecting? If you say draw up say your dose of tes and then some extra bac (for example) by the time you go to pin yourself that needle is basically shredded and blunt as anything and you’ll find it much harder to get it in.

I try my best to keep it at just one puncture in the vial and then one more time to pin myself and inject. That also is my fear is blunting the needle.

I've never had a issue with that. I do two shots every Friday for my wife and myself, and never had that issue. What brand syringes are you using?

Some random brand on Amazon called “SUDYHTD”, its a 100 pack of 1 ml 30G 1/2 in. insulin needles and my prior order was a 31G from another amazon brand and I had no issue. It could just be a product issue but if so then imma be stuck with these unfortunately until i order from a different more reputable brand like trueplus or easytouch. I just opted with this cause it was cheaper and faster to get.

I used both 31 and 32 gauge needles for injecting BpC around my left deltoid and biceps. I hate IM shots due to terrible experience with gear. But these shots were so easy and much more comfortable to control than glutes. My 32 gauge needle is eight mm long.

I tried a few cheap ones from Amazon when starting. I've since gone to Easy Touch and BD's 31g 8mm. Big difference, especially for my wife.
