glp-1 and reduced protein tau tangles and amyloid-beta plaques (hallmarks of Alzheimer's):

Weight-Loss Drugs May Reduce Buildup of Alzheimer's Proteins, Major Review Finds

The list of potential benefits of GLP-1 drugs is only getting longer, with a new review of mostly preclinical studies linking these popular diabetes and weight-loss medications to limiting the molecular hallmarks of dementia.

I think Novo did studies regarding sema and Alzheimer's. I don't recall that their trials met the clinical endpoints they were looking for. But, it sounds like there's more to learn about it!

There are a very large number of preclinical trials showing that GLP's are neuroprotective in cell and animal models. And some statistical evidence that dementia is less common in diabetics treated with GLP's. What there is not , is good prospective controlled clinical trials showing it reduces its progression or development, and there is a recent trial where they were ineffective at reducing progression of alzheimer's. There are a lot of currently underway studies in humans.

There is a reasonable chance it might prevent alzheimer's but may need to be started early before damage sets in. That sort of study takes a lot longer to do and is more expensive. But it is worth remembering that there are at least 12 different methods of preventing or curing alzheimer's in mouse or rat models of the disease that failed in human trials. There is still no real agreement on what really causes it , tau? amyloid? blood brain barrier dysfunction? metabolic processes in neurones or astrocytes or glia? inflammation? microbiome dysbiosis? etc etc . Usually this type of confusion makes developing therapies that actually work less likely.
