Gastric Sleeve and Reta

I had VSG 16 years ago and still have pretty good restriction, but used Tirz two years ago and the weight shed off of me again. I switched to Reta for no real reason, but I've been able to keep every single bit of it off. I take 10mg every 6 days

Most people make the mistake of assuming gastric surgeries lead to weight loss purely due to a reduction in stomach size. Although that does play a role, it's not the full story. Part of the surgery usually involves severing at least part of the vagus nerve, which relays satiety hormone (e.g. GLP-1) signals from the gut to the brain (so-called afferent signaling). That reduction or elimination in afferent signaling plays a major role in weight loss. This has been confirmed in rodents by performing surgeries on them where the stomach itself is left alone and just the nerve is severed leading to significant weight loss.

There was another user on this forum who found that meant (at least for them) that the overall effect of gastric surgery plus GLP was cumulative with them losing significantly more weight on a GLP after surgery-related loss had stalled. I wouldn't assume you'll get the same result they did, but we can certainly cross our fingers and hope that ends up being the outcome for you.
I had gastric bypass and once I was fully healed by hunger signals came back the same as before. Of course I ate less because I was full sooner. Unfortunately, it doesn't help the mental "food noise" issue. I managed to "eat around" the bypass and gain everything back (took a long time, but it happened. Same thing happened to my cousin.). The GLP1 helps the food noise tremendously.

I do an interesting dosing schedule. 1 mg tirz, two days later 3 mg Reta, two days later 1 mg tirz, two days later 3 mg Reta.
I've been on Tirz for a while, last pin of that was Friday at 3.5mg, and today was my first Reta, 1mg. Planning to basically do the same as you, though right now sticking to the tirz being higher and the Reta being the boost.

Go slow with Reta. No rush and it has side effects

Reta is amazing when it's working, it's almost too easy it seems. I lost most of my 2nd round of weight loss with compounded Tirz, I started on the Reta and transitioned to it solo in about a month. I lost 23lbs in one month at 4mg, granted I had everything dialed in pretty good and using a fair amount of NAD+ for energy.

Stepped on the scale on this morning and had to step back off, immediately. Got some work to do and I'm gonna up the Reta to 5mg today, can't weight. Went for a 45 minute walk, with my Husky. I'm hoping not to have to pay for a dog walker next week, trying to be careful with my shoulder.

It's hard when the sling comes off and our brains are like oooh yea we can use the arm now! Uh NO we cannot lol

I am only one dose of Reta in, I do my Tirz tonight, so hopefully now that I am getting things back to some form of "normal," I will get that post surgery rebound off.

I had RNY 22 years ago. I never can eat a lot of food. I am restricted for life. But I stopped losing weight after the first year post op. A few pounds even came back. GLPs saved my life, I finally lost the final 40 pounds and got below my goal weight. It worked so well. Started on sema, then tirz, then Reta.
I had mine 9/11/2001 - what a day, right? Anywho thank you for posting this, I tried sema for 3 weeks (lol!) and was convinced it wasn't working because of my RNY and small portions. I am now on week 4 or maybe 5 of reta and your post gives me hope, nothing major yet, but I started slow.

How long have you been on Reta, and what dose?

**ETA: Nevermind I see your dose 😉

I stack Reta and tirz together. My surgeon totally supports GLPs to get to goal. 2.0 tirz with 7.0 Reta. I really can’t over eat but wasn’t losing more weight it like stabilized after the surgery then started creeping back on,

Thank you, he makes us a little conceded. Just about 6 weeks ago, Right shoulder I had a 3 Rotator tears with a collagen patch, bicep tenodesis & labral repair. This was my good one, need to do the left one next.

I also had Bicep tendon repair. It wasn’t too bad. But…l still have lots of pain in that shoulder! Arthritis set in

Same, my pouch has stayed in-tact and I still dump (thankfully). I literally was starting to think this wasn't going to produce results because of the RNY, and then I stumbled on this. Thank you so much!

I am also running my own labs via Ulta, I am super on top of my labs after almost dying from a potassium deficiency shortly after my RNY. So I am not adjusting any dosages until doing some basic labs to make sure I am not wrecking everything I have worked so hard to biohack otherwise.

I have been on Reta 1 1/2 years already. I am three pounds under goal. Never thought I would get this low.

I got a sleeve done 10 years ago. It got me to a place I'm ok with, but I am hoping that Reta will help in my goal to reach a BMI under 30. In my mind it seems like a really obvious good pairing. Anyone have experience with this?
VSG 5y ago. No experience with Reta but have used Sema and Tirz with good success.

I had my sleeve one 12 years ago. I, like so many others, managed to eat around it. In my case it wasn't how much I was eating. I couldn't eat much without throwing it all back up for years. My problem was what I was eating, I was a bonified junk food addict. I had to graze on junk (snack cakes and chips all day) The cravings overwhelmed me, my brain never let me forgot about a candy bar in the fridge. If I wasn't eating junk food I was thinking about it. I had junk food stashes everywhere, it was sad. I started Tirz and it was like someone turned off a switch in my head. I could care less about getting that junk food. Now I am concerned with protien and hydration but it doesn't take over my brain. I remember thinking 'so this is what normal feels like'. GLPs have saved me, I wish I had them earlier in life.

I don’t dump thank god, but can’t eat much at all

I had RNY back in 2008, have been taking Reta since Jan 2026 and I'm very happy with the progress to lose some of the weight I've regained from shitty eating habits post-covid (2020-ish)

Obviously not the same surgery but I've seen plenty of folks with previous bariatric surgeries having great experience with GLP in general.
