But what does gas have to do with sending crypto from an exchange or a non-custodial wallet? I mean, you have to pay gas in both cases (if the coin requires it).

I definitely agree that you should not pay directly from a custodial wallet in an exchange. But you are making it sound like that can avoid gas.

I realized you meant the extra gas for the additional hop from the exchange to the wallet. I suppose, I deserve that . In my defense, I was very high when I wrote that.

You can buy whatever crypto you want directly from exodus. No coinbase or anything else needed.

You can. But you shouldn't.

Thank you so much for posting this. I am at the stage of wanting to make my first purchase with crypto and have downloaded both the same options as you used so this is super helpful for me. I've used crypto wallets many years ago but I definitely needed a recap.
