Whenever ive added crypto to my exodus wallet, ive always used my debit card. Today it redirected me to moon pay to open an acct. with id and biometric bullshit. So is my wallet still decentralized and only controlled by me still? Do i need to worry about moonpay suspending my acct. We had a good thing with just exodus.... after years i finally learned crypto but without a triple block chain move. Am i still good?

Your Exodus wallet should be fine. If you sign up and provide KYC info to a coin vendor, then obviously there’s a pathway towards IDing a non -KYC wallet holder. It’s certainly not an easy task to do that IDing though. Depending on your privacy beliefs, you can keep going as is (should be perfectly fine), or enable multi-address per transaction and send chunks over to a new non-KYC with multi-address on. That’s completely up to you though.

I’ve never liked the idea of buying/selling crypto in the same space where you make transfers to offshore vendors. Moonpay wants all that info about you because they will have to generate an IRS Form 1099-DA showing your gains/losses from your crypto activity (buying and selling). The point of a custodial wallet like Exodus is to maintain some semblance of anonymity in your digital finances. Buy and sell crypto in Coinbase or Robinhood (and they’ll send you your required forms for the tax man), but pay your Chinese mystery powder suppliers in Exodus.

Thanks fellas! Im reading they record buying and selling crypto but not what happens after its received in exodus wallet unless its sold.

To be absolutely transparent, smarter people than me in this community (which is most of them) have pointed out that legally you should be reporting all crypto gains and losses, even those you realize when transferring crypto to someone else’s wallet, say for the purchase of crocheted vial and syringe holders. So if you bought $100 of Polkabit or Bitdot, transferred it to your cold wallet, the asset appreciated, and you used it to purchase $200 of goods, technically you’re supposed to report $100 in digital asset gains. How that gets proved is beyond me and, I suspect, currently not something most of us need to worry about.

If you stick to stablecoins (USDC, USDT, etc.) you avoid gains and losses (absent the random cent or two).

I just tried to get a Exodus wallet and it will not show me an option to create a wallet? I followed the instructions someone posted here and also went to YouTube everything shows create a wallet as the first step after downloading but I am not getting that option, any help would be great! Thanks

Idk think it ever mentioned specifically creating wallet for me..... if you go through the id verification of uploading id and everything else you should be good. I have no option that says wallet, just will show my balance.... ie 92.00 btc, 147 usdt

Thinking it does it automatically. If u have an option to buy/sell/swap, it already has ur "wallet/account"

Well, I might be ok then on Exodus I can open it and see the different coins listed and the rates but when I went to buy them it sent me to MoonPay and that was another mess it would not verify my Bio-scan I did it 20-30 times and it kept saying I was not verified. I guess it must be me.

I tried to get happy with Moon Pay but Coinbase was easier and quicker to verify and allow me to buy/transfer so until something changes, I’m sticking with it.
Still using Coinbase here, can get instant transfers from my bank account usually. I don’t have a good handle yet on why sometimes it puts a hold on transfers while normally it sends instantly.

Yeah when u sign up its given to you.... sounds like you were locked out. Thats the only way to get back in.... check email/spam. Its 12 random words. Maybe create a different account with a proton email... its encrypted and then exodus shouldnt know its the same ip address.
