My brother warned me before starting retatrutide that my enjoyment of a good meal and alcohol would mostly go away and these activities would just be social and or functional in the future.

He was certainly correct about alcohol. Even though I'm on a very low dose for only a couple of weeks, I've noticed my usual before dinner drink was just habit now. No more pleasant warmth and happy buzz. The dopamine is gone so why bother? I started drinking an electrolyte instead. That's certainly more healthy and I'm sure I'll get used to this new normal but still a bit depressing.

On the other hand, a delicious meal still tastes good and is quite enjoyable to me. I just don't think about food much and am never really hungry. Maybe some that lost their enjoyment of food had a different response to it before Reta, involving more dopamine release perhaps.

I'm sure I'll still have the occasional drink at social functions but not something to look forward to on a regular basis. Does everyone mostly quit drinking on retatrutide? I assume this is an aspect of the anhedonia side effect.

Yeh i have lost some of the enjoyment of food as well. Now i eat because i have to not because i am excited to taste something yummy.

I rarely drank before so haven't noticed any change there.

My experience was similar. Still love food. I can more easily stop eating it. So far it has been perfect for me. I mean, some foods are killers at almost any portion size, but occasional setbacks are just occasional.

Early on, alcohol was far less appealing. But I have since gotten over that and drink more than I should again. That’s a drag, but it’s also still easier to dial it back as well. After all, it cuts into the food calorie budget.

I think you are right about different drives.

I have a friend that I tried to get on Reta. Most people that I've talked to about it, use the excuse that it's not FDA approved, or finished phase 3 testing. He said that he doesn't want food to taste bad. In talking to him, I realized that his life revolved around food and eating. That was his enjoyment in life. After not seeing him for a month, my weight loss made a huge impression on him. He joined a gym a few days later, and another person at the gym in good shape excitedly told him about his Reta experience. That same day he asked me where to get some for himself. Now he has replaced food with workouts and computer games. He seems proud now when he tells me that he has gone all day without eating. Maybe he will add some other things to his life instead of food. He seems happier.

I also no longer enjoy alcohol as much. I went out to a great cocktail bar the other day and whilst I enjoyed my first drink, the next 3 I tried I didn't finish and ended up giving to other people at the table. Certainly felt list a waste of money in the end.

I still enjoy food but less of it and it's not something I think about or necessarily look forward to anymore. It makes things a lot easier overall.

I don’t drink very often, so I can’t really compare that. But I do smoke, and at many moments I definitely feel less urge to smoke, and there’s more time between cigarettes.

I notice I have less food noise, but I still get hungry—just less than before. Also, I feel full much faster.

I've completely stopped drinking thanks to Reta. My last phase was worrying because I was drinking excessively at times and even using other drugs in that drunken state. Since I started Reta over four months ago, none of that interests me anymore. For me, it's been the best thing, along with my body recomposition.

I've lost the desire for anything overly strong or bold tasting so that includes my formerly beloved wine. It's too "intense" for my pallet now. As far as food, it still brings me joy but I don't crave comfort dishes any longer. I want greens, Whole Foods, fresh sushi more.

When I do indulge in a glass of wine I quickly regret it. I go from a light buzz to feeling horribly hungover very quickly. The last time I had 2 glasses I couldn't get off the couch all day the next day the fatigue was so bad.

I got a friend to start Reta recently and I got to watch it kick in for him over dinner last night. It was hilarious!

He had previously watched me on Reta and thought I was only eating very small meals like only an appetizer or side salad with a little chicken for dinner because I was trying to over-sell what the Reta was doing to me.

Last night he was so excited for his meal until it showed up. (It was some sort of very cheesy chicken dish.) When he finally got it he looked at it with this sudden much less enthusiastic look on his face. It looked fine. He loves food and his “inner fat kid” as he puts it is always the one making his dietary decisions for him.

He enjoyed the first three bites but on bite four he was suddenly just done and wanted nothing to do with it. I sat there and laughed at him while he tried to piece together how this was even possible from a little shot.

I found Ozempic to cause a lot more obvious food aversion responses than other GLP's, maybe partly because I was a bit nauseous a lot of the time, but I really did not feel like eating most foods, and ended up eating the same thing every day mostly for a year, which actually helped my gut hurt less and work better , which turned out useful. The food aversion thing definitely helps kill cravings for unhealthy foods.

I still have a bit of that, reluctant to eat different foods, and sometimes start eating something and just decide my stomach is not going to like it and have to stop, but I am pushing the doses and types of GLP's fairly hard to suppress appetite as much as possible to try to keep off the 80 kilos I have lost. tirz 4.5mg/2 days reta 1.4mg/2days cagri 0.25 /4days, so still a bit of food aversion , but less than ozempic and less nausea. I am fairly sure the nausea , food aversion and illness response effects are all from GLP-1 agonism and tend to co occur. And definitely dose related.

Being a bit reluctant to try different foods is not all bad when you are trying to stick to an ultra strict and fairly repetitive diet. Food still tastes nice, though my diet involves total exclusion of any high calorie / highly rewarding foods to stop some sort of weird post rich food extreme hunger response that has killed every diet I have ever been on in the past.

My neighbor was on Ozempic for a while and hated it. Zero appetite and nausea. Her doctor put her on something else, I can't remember what it is. She has no clue we're on Reta, and likely doesn't know what it is.

I quit drinking altogether on Mounjaro, albeit I always wanted to. I wasn’t drinking regularly, only on weekends at social gatherings. The medication made it much easier to do so. I’m proud to say that I haven’t drank alcohol since last June, so O get where you’re coming from.
