Hello, I’m asking on behalf of a friend who started taking Reta 2.5 mg and has been experiencing diarrhea as a side effect. Even though he stopped taking it, there hasn’t been any improvement after several days. Has anyone had a similar experience, or what would you recommend he do?

Did he took 2,5 mg as his first shot of Reta ever?

The clinical trials started with 2 mg.

But I would suggest to start with 1 mg or 0,5 mg to prevent from the side effects like diarrhea.

He has to endure this now and take some electrolytes. It takes time for the body to reduce the concentration of Reta in the body. When he wants to continue then he should start at a much lower dose

Hello and thank you for the advice. Yes, he started with 2.5 mg, probably too high a dose; now, as you wrote, he probably has to start again carefully and with some patience, using a very low dose.

Everyone is different. I started at 2mg minimal side effects besides some heart burn.

Reta has a half-life of 6-7 days. So after a week there is still roughly 1.25 mg in his system, which is still more than SOME people can handle, depending on tolerance. After 2 weeks, a more tolerable .75mg. I would say look up a good recipe for "sticky rice" in addition to the electrolytes.
