Before I jumped into peptides at all, my GP recommended that I talk to a dietitian for nutrition.

I will be frank; I balked at the idea because no amount of "balanced nutrition" can possibly address my elusive, hard weight loss plateau. I honestly think that my GP told me to see one because she didn't believe me when I told her I did everything right and still got stuck.

Anyways, I saw one today because it was free, and I was told what i thought was the most absurd thing ever....

"Instead of zero sugar soda, eat nuts because they have protein and fiber between lunch and dinner."

.....did she forget that nuts are really high on fats?

Would be worth a followup visit to sip diet soda during the appointment.

She said some grandiose bullcrap like "you are going to change your life forever."

Yeah lady, please tell me how your advice of "use your palm for a portion size" is going to be life changing

My doctor made me go see a dietician before I starting me on glp-1s too for a few visits for free. It did help me eat better and eat a lot more too (apparently I was eating barely any proteins so they suggested changes etc in my regular routine. As a person who had never paid much attention to what I eat rather than how much I ate, I did find the initial few visits helpful.

Would I continue going for further visits? No.

It’s tragic that they know what you should do with knowing you.

I ran into the same roadblock with my PCP. Recommended to see a dietitian to stop the progression of diabetes. I was astounded by how many assumptions were made about what I was eating, or what I could eat (but didn’t think I shouldn’t)

Just remember you want to build the foundation and use the glp like the cherry on top. Training and eating the right foods and right amounts of calories and protein are critical. Together it can change your life.

Sounds like book smarts without real world understanding. Was the dietitian new?

Not at all. She is fairly well known for her tutoring business
Very interesting. Is her theory that you’re not eating enough calories to provide the energy to move around more and burn more calories?

And she spent 30minutes explaining a picture with some food. Granted some people really know nothing about macronutrients and its probably me being easily irritated by listening to things I already know.

Speaking of cherries, my dietitian recommended having smaller portions of deserts (or sharing)

I said “ what about no desert” she said I was allowed a few grams of sugar each day (I forget how much) 🤦‍♂️

Yeah, nuts are way too high in fat and are really not a great snack food. I could easily polish off a ton of nuts before tirzepatide and thought I was doing good, but it probably was part of the reason I was obese. You probably just need to find the right nutritionist, as this one is clearly has questionable advice.

My current pcp suggested I see a nutritionist and I, too, balked at the idea. I was already well along in my weight loss and was successful. And to be honest, I'm not 100% sure why she suggested, but it was really great. It was free and I used an app called Nourish. I would take pictures of my food in the app and I would discuss my meals with the nutritionist weekly. I had some really messed up eating habits. Among other things, the nutrutionist helped me overcome my fear of carbs. Ultimately, through discussions with the nutritionist, I realized that I needed some cognitive behavorial therapy which let me to seek out a therapist. Who unraveled a bunch of other shit in my life. I don't see either the nutritionist or therapist now, but really glad I spent some time with both. Because after binge watching 100 episodes Dr. Now earlier this year, I came to the revelation that part of my obesity is psychological.

As I said in my previous reply, she has a tutoring service - which seems successful actually for RDN exams.

Then again remembe this? Those who can't, teach.

Dieticians education is largely paid for by big food and pharma. And frankly, nutrition "science" just simply isn't. Dieticians, IMHO, are worse than useless.

So.... I will say this.... I saw one when I was dx T2. What I needed help with was not what to eat generally but what to eat since Metformin made me so nauseated every second of the day and the mere idea of so many foods made me gag that I could hardly eat anything at all.

"But it's healthy fat" 😉
