Since so many people are concerned about retaining lean mass, I thought that this article might be interesting.

At a conference in Turkey earlier this month, the phase 3a REDEFINE results were released and suggest an actual increase of 12% in the lean mass proportion for the cagrisema group. Of course, total lean mass decreased in absolute terms, but since more fat mass was lost, the % of lean mass proportionally increased.

These results are positive for those considering one of the amylin analogues as part of the strategy.

Data from the REDEFINE-1 trial (NCT05567796) were recently presented in Türkiye, assessing Novo Nordisk's CagriSema in adults with obesity.

That’s a strange way to run the stat, what was their lean loss/weight loss?

I can’t dive into it right now to calculate for myself, but under 25% is usually considered good.

Not griping at you.

Another study using a subpar method to guess muscle mass retention. CT or mri data is the only answer I'll accept when it comes to body composition.

This study does it right https://www.ajronline.org/doi/10.2214/AJR.24.31805. Shows reduction of vat fat, liver size, and fat inside the muscle. All of these count as "lean mass loss ", yet these are the exact metrics that we want to see go down.

To be honest, it doesn't really matter what kind of weight loss drug you are on, the best way to retain lean mass is lifting consistently and eating enough protein. You can actually increase lean mass on any weight loss drug and undergo a recomposition. So when I see these studies, I just feel like it's pointless to even discuss this matter. My thoughts are, if you're not lifting consistently and eating enough protein, then you're just dumb for using a weight loss drug thinking all that's gonna lose is fat mass.
