Sorry, I cannot post the url due to my posting restriction but check CNN for the article!

Orforglipron, named brand Foundayo, is made by Eli Lilly. As part of the deal, medicare would also cover the pill for some patients, with a monthly under $50, starting as soon as July 1.

In a trial supporting approval, people on the highest dose of Foundayo lost an average of 12% of their body weight over 72 weeks, compared with 0.9% for people taking a placebo. The injectable drugs have produced weight loss in trials of more than 20%, while Novo Nordisk said the Wegovy pill showed average weight loss of up to 17% on the highest dose in trials.

The pills also represent a major change in pricing of and access to GLP-1 drugs; in a deal struck with the administration in November, the pills start at $149 a month at the lowest doses for patients paying out of pocket, a much lower price than had previously been available.

In my ignorant opinion, pill-based might make it easier and less expensive to manufacture and distribute. Perhaps also flatten out the peaks seen with weekly Zepbound injections. Would be great as a maintenance med when millions have done their heavy weight loss and need a smaller boost to just keep the weight off.

I thought someone already posted the link to this news, but can’t find it now.

It’s surprising to me, that a class of medications which primary side effects are gastrointestinal would be put into pill form, which requires transport by the very system that causes the side effects. Thank you, but no thank you. With meals or without. Nope, nada, no thank you, yeah no, etc. Not interested. I’ll take my weekly or bi-weekly pin, thank you very much.

Not really breaking news (article is a few months old) But here ya go:

I can see it as a solid choice for maintenance I guess, but I'd still prefer a weekly shot to a daily pill. Experience, and my 5 fucking kids, indicate daily pills are not for me.

I do like that it's an option though, some people for whatever reason are just not into injections and this is better than nothing.

The CNN article was written April 1st and unlike your url, the breaking part is how American insurance will cover it at that price point and it is now legal to sell. Since you are Dutch, I'd understand why you wouldn't get the significance of that.

It's strange, but I get "pill fatigue" more than I'll ever get "needle fatigue".

I had a rather extreme bariatric surgery in 2021...they re-routed my intestines and it left me with a permanent malabsorption component.

Vitamins, more vitamins and more supplements are needed daily to keep me in health. I just don't want to add one more pill into the mix...but I think it may work great for maintenance for a lot of people.
