Just wondering how y’all getting on running Reta alongside road cycling?

Are you finding training difficult at all?

Is there a certain amount of time you can get by until you hit a wall per se?

I’m looking to do approximately 14 weeks on Reta to try and drop 10kg (100 now) by May, as I’m cycling into the Pyrenees at the end of May with approximately 400 miles of cycling, so need to lose a good 10kg to get up these mountain climbs.

My concern is when the Reta starts taking effect I won’t be able to sustain longer training rides of 2-6 hours?

Anyone here managing or not managing at all on the exercise front for long durations?

I will be taking a carbohydrate and electrolytes drink on these rides to keep me fuelled for the duration….im just hoping that will be enough 🤞🏼

I think you will be alright. Fueling your training will be even more important. It seems easier to tap into body fat for fuel IMO with Reta. I’m base training currently but hope to drop down to 1-2mg a week during season. My base training has been going very good minus getting a cold that has lingered for over a week.

Thanks for the input!

I’m ticking over with base as well, but will be going into the build phase in the next couple of weeks!

In the UK we have a sports drink called tailwind which has plenty of carbs and electrolytes to fuel the rides (done me well on Ironmans etc) so would be a plus if being on Reta will tap into fat reserves as well 😍

At least the Reta should ware off by the time I jump on my big weekly ride which is normally on a Sunday, which is also pin day. So I should be able to fuel the night before and the morning of without issues.

Can I ask what mg you’re on now, and have you lost much over the course of your time on Reta?

Not out on the road, but Peloton classes, which can be challenging. ( I am an ex-roadie) Although the long rides on the Peloton are 60-75 minutes, they do mimic outdoors. I’ve dropped 50+ lbs on Tirz. Can report higher outputs on most rides I have repeated. Endurance seems to have increased. I’ve done a few bike trail rides and 1 hour seems like a piece of cake. The lbs lost allow me to ride my carbon Colnago again.

Currently 3mg every 5 days. Been on 15 weeks, down 40lb. Made tremendous progress at low doses.
I’d be elated with that kind of loss! Awesome 💪🏼

That’s good to know, thank you! Can you do one for 3 hours for me and tell me how you get on then 😂

Jokes aside I’m looking forward to the extra weight loss on my rides, just hope it won’t be detrimental to my longer 4 hour rides as such 🤞🏼

One more issue for thought. I think GLPs etc enhance endurance exercise since your body is using fat for fuel.

It really comes down to your diet. If you are running with a real plan and tracking, your odds of success will be high. Reta will help you stick to your plan and maybe sprinkle in a little magic here and there

Zone 2 rides are now Zone 3/4 rides.
Now, do you mean zone 3-4 or three quarters of a zone (if that’s even a thing 😂)

Mountain biker here. I was concerned because I had a higher resting heart rate, but cardio heart rate wasn't effected. I don't have a power meter but I felt like I was actually putting down more power at a given heartrate. Only have strava to back it up and with mtb hard to justify new records to reta or just better bike handling, better soil conditions, etc. I wasn't using it at a weightloss dose at this time, more for maintenance. (Endurance blocks cause my hunger to outpace my calorie needs.)

Was still able to fuel with no problems using Swedish fish and EFS first endurance.

I believe the glucagon effect of reta has a positive effect on endurance performance.

Any indoor bike doesn’t freewheel or go downhill. 60 minutes on an indoor bike is like twice that on the road. Trust me.

I really hope this is a thing 🙏🏼

oh I believe you, I’ve done lots of indoor training…there’s just no let up!

Constant cycling for 1 hour minimum is a toughie…most I’ve managed is 2 x 1hr classes back to back 🤮

Yeah, I’m fairly new to indoor biking. Had done some spinning classes at the gym. Was surprised how much effort you can spend in an hour.

Good luck in May. Share with us how it goes. I’m curious as well.

Glad I found this thread, was just about to post. My "Kit" arrives in the next few weeks and I am a April - Oct roadie, about 2500 miles. Some years more, some less. But, I was about to ask how Reta effects rides. I do mostly group or solo rides and sometimes , a fondo so nothing competitive besides personal expectations.

How did the training go, how did u fuel it? Did you see any dropoff or feel weak or did it all hinge on staying hydrated and keeping protein up ? TY !

Lurking runner here… just wanted to flag you all to tirzepatideathletes over on Reddit. Last I went through it wasn’t cluttered like some of the other subs (dead internet), and they discuss fueling and whatnot.

I understand that tirz =\= reta but the fueling/ long session challenges sound similar.

I lasted a few weeks on reta and had to tap out. I’m on an rx that already raises me 5-10bpm and this girl has her limits for patience to slow down. 🙃

Happy and healthy training to you!

I may just be out of shape…

But heart rate for a previously zone two effort was in the 3-4 range. I actually quit Reta because of how elevated my heat rate was. I had 8-10 hour over 100.

I’m back on now after a month break. Strictly following the escalation described in the trials now. Still having spikes over 100 occasionally but very short periods. Just went up to 4mg this week. Was at 7.5 when I quit.

If you can get to your goal weight before you go to the Pyrenees, then couldn't you just stop Reta or go down to a low maintenance dose so that you can be confident you can fuel properly for your rides?
