Been browsing the site for about a month trying to learn what I can. I now feel somewhat ready to contribute to the forum.

Have struggled with weight my entire life and found out I was type 2 diabetic last may. Started with insulin shots and my doctor agreed to put me on Ozempic to help with insulin resistance (not weight loss). Since I was first diagnosed, I had multiple visits to the Dr to get my insulin dialed in shortly after being diagnosed. During this time, I noticed the Dr was keeping me at the Ozempic starting dose and not moving me up per the recommended schedule. I had zero side effects and honestly could not tell that it was doing anything. The Dr refused to up my dose, but I didn't argue hoping he just wanted to take it slow.

A few months later, my job changed insurance they offered. Suddenly I was denied coverage for the Ozempic. They were wanting all kinds of documentation of why I needed Ozempic etc etc ect. Said they would not approve until I was on highest dose of metformin for at least 6 months and still had diabetic AC1 numbers. My doctor seemed not interested in going to bat for me and quite frankly told me I didn't really need the Ozempic since my blood sugar seemed to be controlled with the insulin amounts I was using. I told him to keep prescribing me the Ozempic and not to worry as I would just pay out of pocket. So I did that for a few months.

Started looking for other avenues, since my doctor wasn't interested in upping my dosages or getting me reapproved for insurance coverage. That is when I switched to a Telehealth company. I heard Telehealth companies would not take you if they knew you were on insulin shots, so I did not disclose that information to them. at this point, I had come to the conclusion that tirzepatide would be a better fit than semaglutide. That decision is probably the best decision I had made in a really long time.

Fast forward to now, I have lost 85 lbs and have weened my insulin shot down to 15 units per day. I don't have to take an insulin shot before meals anymore. I started out on 40 units in the morning and 15 units before every meal.

I have a 6 month visit coming up with my Dr in July. I feel like I will have no other option but to tell the doctor what I am doing because of the weight loss and backing off the insulin shots so much. Honestly.... he may drop me as a patient but at this point I really don't care.

The thing that brought me to this site ..... I am terrified with what is going on with the FDA restrictions and big pharmacy making it so difficult to obtain affordable GLP1s. I it getting worse everyday. Because of my diabetes and body, I realize this is something I will need to take probably the rest of my life. This site may make it possible to continue my path I am on. If I loose access to any GLP1s.... this would all be for nothing. Weight will pile back on and be back to all the diabetic health problems that come with it.

Glad to be here!
