Does vacuum sealing for storage interfere with vacuum sealed vials?

I’m gonna start preparing a bunch of boxes for long term storage. I have a good vacuum sealer and thinking that pulling a vaccum on a vacuum sealer vial might f up the seal and/or the vacuum inside.

Am I overthinking this? Also, is adding a desiccant pack a good or bad idea?

This is how I do it:

- individually wrapped vial in tin foil

- vacuum sealed in 5 pack bags

- each pack contains some dessiccant beams + oxygen remover pack.

I did this also. I only used a partial vacuum so the vials were not smashed together so hard. I did not add a desiccant but if I had one it could not hurt.

Thx. Have you opened any you’ve done? Did they lose seal/vacuum?

It seems that under enough vaccuum the vials could become positive and explode at least enough to kill the seal. In theory anyway.

Partial vacuum? I think I can set that somehow.

No vacuum loss, they're good, don't worry about that they're made to handle that type of pressure easily.

You are overthinking it. If you are using vacuum bag sealer, you are not going to pull a stronger vacuum than present in a vial.

On the other hand, if you are an AC technician pulling a 180um vacuum with a vacuum pump, you should reconsider your approach and stop mixing your work with your hobby.

The only challenge I see is that every time you need a vial you will need to reseal the bag and you could have temp swings in your freezer.

I use insulated food storage containers (thermos) with some desiccant thrown in. It keeps my peps at a rock solid -8.7F and humidity at 5.4-5.5% even with the door opening/closing weekly and the compressor cycling. The 47oz thermos model will hold like 8 kits and keeps them fairly organized. Bonus is it will keep your peps frozen for 12+ hours if you lose power or need to transport them. (I tested it).

I still have my kits in the skincare or whatever random packaging they came in tossed in the bottom of my regular freezer lmao

I do this with peps (especially lower cost peps) that I plan to use in the next 12 months or so. They stay in the plastic pep cases the sellers use. The thermos is for the peps I plan to store multiple years.

Maybe overkill, but the $300 I invested in the the freezer and a couple of thermos's pales in comparison to the cost of the peps they are protecting.

Wanna talk about overkill? I recently bought a 1k laminar flow hood off Alibaba - try to beat that 🤣

If a vial never had a good vacuum I could see that maybe being a problem when you vacseal it. Would it pop the stopper out? I may inject some air in an old vial and seal it to see what happens.

If you are reconstituting for someone with a compromised immune system, not overkill at all. TBH I am very lackadaisical with my reconstituting, I wipe the tops of the vials with alcohol and use new syringes & needles but thats about it.

I just think about the junky's sharing needles and shooting IV in on a filthy gas station bathroom floor, I'm miles ahead of that. I guess I need a higher bar.....

Not the case, but I provide the family so I prefer to be safe

Yeah, but it can always be better, and at some point you gotta accept it. I know it's hard cuz i also have that struggle aha

This is one of those $11 essential oil cases (30 3ml vials). I put a lunch box ice pack in the lid pocket and have the base of the vials in contact with the ice pack. I store 36 vials in each 8 from each kit (2 vials fit horizontally between each vertical row) the other 2 from each kit go on a more accessable case for more frequent turnover.[Imported image pending local asset: data-attachments-4-4675-2f067dd65aa8f1b4bcacf745a506ca4d.jpg]

I recently upgraded my frozen stuff to little vial holders from temu, mostly because I keep knocking them out of the freezer when I'm getting food. Vials in container with a couple silica packets, container in a gallon size ziplock with a lunch box gel pack to keep everything cold. I figure if they can handle shipping in the summer they can handle if I lose power for a little while.

Probably a good call to do the same when I finally pull the trigger on a long term stock
