Bac water + Reta storage question

I've been searching on here for a bit and I couldn't find a clear answer on BAC Water usage.

For reta reconstitution. After you poke a Bac water vile even storing it in the fridge, does the whole vile need to be tossed after 28 days?

Seems like a waste of a 30ml vile if I'm only using 1-2ml for reconstitution.

That is a topic of endless debate. A lot of people, myself included, will just use it until it is gone, even if that takes months. I hate to say it, but "do your own research." It is a personal risk acceptance decision.

There are people that use it until its empty. There are people who toss it after 28 days. There are people who use "expired" bottles, and those that sell or toss "expired" bottles. Considering it is a  regulated medical component, it is required to have an expiry date AND a guideline for safe usage(discard after 28 days). It realistically comes down to your personal decision of what you deem safe. I would research what the BAC water truly is, and make an educated decision of whether there is a risk of it becoming contaminated per your usage. Also, general storage practice of BAC water is room temp in a dark location, not refrigerated. However, that may be a non issue as well. Basically all information about it is anecdotal. I've been using the same bottle of "expired" BAC since the beginning of June, and I plan to use to until empty. The nature of the material is to fight bacteria, so as long as proper and safe protocols are followed, I am comfortable with continuing usage past the recommended guidelines. But the decision is ultimately yours. It's your body, your health, and your safety. Don't take anybody else's word for anything, educate yourself.

I use from poke till I start to get irritated injection site reactions.

Ive used a vial fot 3-4 months with zero issues. I wiped it with alcohol wipes every usage and stored it in a dark cabinet. As long as you use precautions with it and it looks clear, I would not be afraid to use it.

The whole 28 day thing came about from hospital usage where a vial would be jabbed all day every day by needle happy nurses.

So nurses aren't needles happy since we don't even give many injections anymore, 90% of meds via IV maybe 6% insulin shoots and the other 4% we mix with blunt needles and give via IV also. BTW hospitals don't even use Bac water.

The 28-day thing actually began as the default for products that didn't otherwise specify a beyond use date. In theory, Hospira could label their BAC for discard 90 days after first puncture, but their monopoly selling prescription water for $1000+ per gallon makes that a really dumb business plan.

Thanks for the clarification. Needle happy nurses was just sarcasm which doesn't translate well written. I guess the hospital part was something I mislearned.

But the other part is true. Long as you're being sanitary and don't see discoloration, i wouldn't be scared to use a few months old bac water as ive done it with no issues.
